    Custom Dash Done

Ok let me know what you think. I had a hard time getting the finish to look good, and after reading some posts I think im going to take it back out eventually and use some of that rubber undercoating to try and give it an OEM look.

Step 1: Cut out where the vents used to be

Step 2: Screw in the screen frame to the dash

Step 3: Throw some fiberglass on it

Step 4: Smooth it out with bondo

    Step 5: Paint 'er up

    Back in the car:

I'm wishing now that I would have cut out those bumps that used to mold around the vents, but oh well. Let me know what you think.

Oh yeah, and as long as I had my dash ripped apart I though I'd do some accent painting on the vents and around the shifter (silver).

    That stinks.

I don't think I would want to kill my vents either.

Can you wrap it in leather or a leather looking vinyl? The shape of the dash is very pleasing to the eye. I don't know how much time you put into it, but I bet it was more than a few hours.

Over all it was about a week, the first few days just screwing around with the screen and planning, but actually ripping out the dash and doing all of the work was about three days straight, 9 am to midnight or later. Of course, a lot of the time was waiting for stuff to dry, and most of the third day was spent sanding. But yeah, it was a lot of time lol.

And IDK about the vinyl. I'd have to check in to some places and see what I can find.

and if you have never wrapped vinyl, id suggest having someone do it. It is VERY tedious and I assure you, it will take more than a time or two to get it right. I agree though, it would look awesome all wrapped up.

What kind of paint did you use that bubbled?

Did you try using SEM texture coating topped with a SEM color coat?

I would recommend priming it, doing the SEM texture coat, sanding lightly to even the texture, SEM color coat of your choice and finally SEM low luster clear coat over it. I can't say enough about the durability of SEM products. They are 10x beter than any duplicolor or other brand.

Great work on the glass work BTW. Very nice! Please keep us up to date on how you end up finishing it whether it be paint or wrap.

I am going to be doing a very similar job on my S2000 soon.
