Well, having grown up with the woodshop around you, I suspect there's a lot of sawdust in your veins, and I bet you can make fine cabinetry right alongside your Dad. The fact that you've gone into programming shows how broad your skills are.

I'm a woodworker, and the son of a woodworker, too. Although I've made cabinets, my skills and tools aren't at the "cabinetmaker" level, and I envy all that nifty precision and high-volume equipment.

We had a pretty good shop in our basement when I was growing up, and every time I walk into a woodshop, it smells like home. Good stuff.

    Oops -- I think we've hijacked 04f150stx's thread. I better hush up.

If just enough is really good, then too much ought to be perfect.

Smile Did you look for Birch Plywood?

Birch is expensive but, it is good when you need one (top or outside) good smooth surface. I used it to build two 4x4 dining tables. I, myself haven't had the best of luck with fiber board. I do love planed pine though.

Almost anything. Personally, I only use Ash or Oak. Then again, I have access to tons of this that's pretty much scrap in terms of cabinets, or any finished piece of furniture.

If you're creative, you can use nearly anything. Soft or hardwoods, 2X4 scraps, or even the MDF if placed properly. Using fiberglass on the joints can beef it up as well.
Play with it, 'til it's broke.

Anything will do. I used wood that was 1.57 for a longgggg piece ( I think it was called white wood?). I used screws that are made to dig into wood and hold.

Yes it would be. f150stx must be the account I created the first time. Then now when I got really ready to start the project and posting, I couldn't remember by user/pass and created another account (as the lost password didn't work or I couldn't remember which email address I used).

The other day when I posted that message, I was at work and for some reason didn't put the 04 in front of the username and I guess it remembered my password there.

LOL.... Thats why I use only one email..... So how is the project coming? I finally got mine back.

I know the front isnt perfect but its close enough, it was to hard for the fabricator to get it perfect since the wood work was so complicated.
