    fabrication

ok, so i was looking around, trying to get some ideas for my lowgrade exotic project (pm me for the awesome wicked idea), and i've found the style headlights i want, and a general idea for the taillights.

what i am wondering, from someone that does a lot of fab (nexson perhaps?), can you do/what would you charge, to do completely custom headlight and taillight builds?

    here is what i have:

what i would like to do for headlights is something kinda like this:

but i would like the row of leds under the lights. i like the current side markers of my headlight bezel, but would like to transform my lights from bezel and sealed beams to one piece headlight assembly, molded into the bezel. obviously i would have to add a little support to the back to help hold it, not a concern. i just want a modern assembly, with the angel eyes, projectors, and leds.

for the taillights, i want to sort of emulate later tbird taillights, with the 3 red circles shrouded in black. what i would like to do, is something like a toyota supra light, keeping the reverse lights to the inside, but with three red. again, i want the more modern look, red lights on a black background behind a clear lense.

so anyone that feels something like this is within their realm of doing? if so, what might you charge to do something like this? this would no doubt be a good piece for your portfolio.

if any clarification is needed, let me know, i can attempt to better describe.

    bird bird bird......thunderbird....lol

dude..you may be in the wrong forum...for that
you need to see an auto body specialist......someone who can fabricate those things in place for you....
    or
you can buy the car that those light fit into and save yourself the work.

those particular headlights are for a mustang, and the tails are obviously for a supra. they were nothing more than examples. i have no plans for a mustang. they are like an arse, everyone has one.

instead i have a build sheet for my tbird to go the exotic route. once done, about the only thing left of the tbird will be the body. suspension, interior, motor, everything getting modded. the funny thing, its all coming off of other ford models. you would be surprised what you can build by reaching into the ford parts bin.

and i figured this was the appropriate forum, seeing as how it would be mostly fiberglass work. something a lot of people do on here, is fibreglass.

i'm interested in the upgrades partly for the looks, mostly for better visibility. only real upgrades for lights on my cars are to replace incandescents with leds and get better sealed beams. not good enough. i want better optics all around.

also...ignore the crappy graphics on the car, i bought it like that, and promtly scraped them off.

    Hey There,

I just saw this thread. As mentiond above this is a more of an autobody type of project and although I do minor auto body work, I specialize in customer fiberglass interior work. Also, so to do this type of project I would need the car in my posession. In order to do something as custom as this requires the car and ALOT of work. Sheetmetal from the car has to be cutt and new metal welded.

Although fiberglass is an option, the fiberglass would have to be directly mended to the car and then smoothed out. This is a type of project I probably wouldn't get into unless it was for myself and I knew the amount of time I had would be unlimited. However I wouldn't discourage you from trying to find a local custom body shop to do it, however the price is going to be hefty

doing the rear lights would be the easier of the two, i know that from the get go. the idea is to make the light assemblies front and rear direct boltin (i'm not a fan of permanent mods. it takes a lot more creativity to make existing look good )

there fore something like a styrofoam mold could be used to set the rear lights up. something of the like for the fronts as well. without taking direct measurements, there is more than enough room in the front clip to make headlights in teh style of those mustang examples (i wasnt meaning to directly integrate either set of lights, they were for reference as style only). the only thing i would have to do for the front lights body-wise is make support brackets at the rear, which could easily bolt into existing holes.

i put these out in the fab section as i saw the headlights that you did nexson, adding those projectors to the honda lights (at least i thought that was your thread, havent looked in a while), and i figured someone that adept in fiberglass could probably make the lights i desire, using other sets as donors.

i'm not sure a body shop would have the skill to do this. dont get me wrong, some of them body mangs do some kickarse work, but something like the front lights........may or may not be in their realm.

i know how to set up and build what i'm desiring....i just have one small problem......i cant fiberglass
