    VW MKV Bezel Fabrication/Machining

I am looking to install my Xenarc 7 inch touchscreen into a custom machined bezel. I have access to all the machining equipment/materials I need, and am pretty good with the engineering software I am going to use, so none of this is a problem.

There is a problem, however. I want to fit the bezel into the space where the stock double din radio unit goes. This is the stock unit:

I am not quite sure how to take the measurements for the bezel, however. As you can see from the picture, the bezel has rounded corners, slanted sides, and maybe even a slight "bend" to the angle of the sides.

So my question is, any suggestions on how to get the measurements, with the rounded corners and angles and everything. I already tried calling some manufacturer of aftermarket stereo bezel, to no avail. Please help me!

    Thank everyone,
    Ian

Make a bezel from a soft material that can be worked, like foam or perhaps wood. Sand it until it matches the form you want, then make an inverse mold of it.

Alternatively, what you need access to is one of those 3D measurement machines that allows you to take measures from a reference point and translate that to measures on the face of the bezel. You might be able to rig one up using a laser level and measure the distances with a ruler but it won't be as accurate.

I have several 3D scanners that I can use to digitize it and create a CAD model of the existing radio (including the plastic part and the metal mounting tabs). I just need a stereo to scan and I'd be happy to help out.

I suppose the screen would need to be scanned as well to make the entire model. After it's designed a rapid prototype could be printed out of nylon or PP and should be pretty much functional. You wouldn't even need to turn on a mill.
