I honestly never use the HD. I guess once they killed all the Electronica and Dance stations, I lost intrest. Now I just have to say I have it, lol. I hope it works out, so keep us posted. If yours ends up working, then it means mine will work with Win 7 also.

I am still using the axxess part for right now. Honestly when I begin upgrading the amp and speakers I will be ditching the factory amp for something along the lines of an Alpine PDX-5.

I should mention that a single 10" sub woofer and box (stealth style) is in the workings.

If the serial > USB does not work, I found a low profile PCI serial card to tryout.

I washed out my center console in the utility sink. Decided to do a bit of work on it before reassembly. Here is the USB port I added:

Thanks for the link Spyder. Ill order one.

So I finally have the truck upgrades done and all put back together. I was having some sound driver issues, I think due to the fact I was using HDMI out for the sound before I installed it. Anyway I removed all the old drivers and installed the newest ones from Asus.com and bam, the sound input now works perfect! I also received my MJS input switcher in the mail today, so I was able to install the last part of the puzzle to get HD radio and Sirius radio going. I am very happy with the sound output, its every bit as comparable to the Xfi, except it's onboard.

I am liking the very fast startup times by this board, the bois is honestly about 2 seconds to boot!

So in addition to all that, I fabbed up a $16 volume knob, it works extremely well, better than any other attempt I've done thus far. The hacked knob is from a doner Dell keyboard I found on ebay, the design of the keyboard makes the hack quite easy. More pix and info on that later

Here is the board, I de-solidered the knob and made a 2ft "extension cord" so the knob can be remote mounted.

Best part is the is a simple HID device requiring no drivers.

I installed a compustar 2 way remote start / alarm combo today. I'm going to tie in a relay to the PC so I can also start it up and shut it down from the remote. I installed the remote package that has up to 1 mile range

It also pages me if the alarm goes off, and gives me status output of the vehicle such as doors open, hood open, interior temperature, battery voltage, remote start run time, etc. It's quite a complex system that I will take some photos of and explain further later on. I used a Fortin module that allowed me to tap into the can bus and get all these features using an ignition T harness. Only wires I had to tap were power, parking lights, and horn. Now I have some security in case someone else decides they like my PC more than I do

Here's a picture of the remote

A little update here, I ended up pulling the ASUS/WIN7 setup and reinstalling the INTEL/XP setup. I battled with windows 7 and stability issues with the ASUS/WIN7 setup and have re-evaluated my windows 7 is "ok" for the car thinking! The "startup repair utility" finally got on my nerves, and the USB > RS232 adaptor running my HD radio was about 50% stable and would often lock up on boot. So I am back to my intel board and happy to report it went back in with no trouble at all! I like having a dedicated hardware comport for the HD radio, seems waaaay more stable than the software virtual comport. I had to redo the UAS and Sirius software but that went off without a hitch. I also eliminated the X-Fi and am using on board sound now, and it sounds great. So I also did a skin upgrade to a Shock v7 beta build and a new RideRunner update.

UGH, you have me so worried about my HD Radio and XM Radio. Even my OBD2, which are all on a USB to Serial adapter.

I think the issue was with win 7, After driving a few days with XP back I remember how much simpler, reliable and easier to configure it is. Especially the sound, I had all the sources line matched in a matter of minutes with XP, vs. a day or two with the win 7 sound. Since putting back the intel board it's booted and run flawlessly, as it did when I pulled it out. All is not lost though, the mobo did get a heatsink / fan upgrade which I wish I would have photographed before putting my console back in. I'll get some pics soon

I used 2 of these, one on the north bride and one on the CPU oriented the same way. I then installed the fan sideways blowing over both. The system will run fan less but it never hurts to circulate a little air.
