Perhaps the brakefluid box is moved on the facelifted ones?

I have thought about moving the first aid box, and as you. I never had use of it... YET...

But when I do, I would like it to be easy accessible. Even when the car have been reared or similar accidents. I also keep a flourecent west in there. (In Norway there is a law about having a flourecent west within arms reach from the drivers side. In case of situations that require you to go out of the car while parked alongside of the road).

A friend of mine at BMWCCN (BMW CarClub of Norway) suggested that i should mount everything underneath the dashboard. He thought that it should be more than spacious to do so. But I would not know. I have not pulled out the dash in a E46 before. The underneath dash space in my E36 Compact where quite... well.. Compact

Only useable space I have found in the dash is on the side of the steering wheel.

I was thinking on monting "everything" on that panel so that it all comes out together. "Everything" is TPMS, OBDII adapter, wireless USB hub, radio (HQCT or the venice 7) and 5V converter.

But there is not a lot of room....

btw. There is two chairs in the front of my car :-) I have a fireextingisher at the driver seat and first aid on right. But maybe you have fireextingusishers too?

I have removed my dash, and there is a heap of room behind the glove box, under where the fuse box sits. But there are plastic parts that hold the fuse box etc up that I don't want to cut away (If I could it would fit my CarPC in there perfectly!)

B-O - that space in my car is another small "glovebox" that I use - and even if that wasn't there I wouldn't be able to fit my CarPC in there :/

I am awaiting pictures on how do remove the glove compartment and how to fit a frame for a car PC. Preferably made in such a way that once frame is assembled the PC can be reached _thru_ the glovebox. Have you got a camera, Grey ;-) haha

I have the same "mini-glove box" as you DeepGrey.
The hold under the hood would be great for a removable box unit

To reach the PC through the glove box means you would have to make a big hole in the glove box :/
I don't mind the CarPC not being seen at all

The dash is quite easy to take out - just a few screws and some force I have had it out a few times. I just don't want to cut into the plastic behind there to put my PC in.

I am going to look into the first-aid box place this weekend - hopefully my PC will fit into there, is that easy to get out?

Sorry to go total Off Topic, but I REALLY need to share this..
I've been a loyal iPhone user for some years now, but yesterday I got my droid... HTC Desire... It was a totally new world of FREEDOM!

Back to topic.. Now I'm thinking about including the droid in the whole big picture as well! hehehe..

Yeah android is quite nice - I am anti iPhone and anti Apple myself
I am waiting for Windows Mobile 7 before I get a new phone though - see if it lives up to the hype before I decide between a droid and win7.

I am definitely including my phone in my CarPC, once I am done with my frontend I will code something for my phone so as I can control things via my phone.. open the windows from a distance etc etc. But I have to get other things finished first haha.

Android is currently up to version 2.2 and have passed any other mobile OS by light years... Win7 mobiles have been to my attention, but been put aside.
Windows in the mobile world, is as it is in the computer world.... -> Demands to much of the hardware compared to it's linux counterpart.
Both Darwin (OS for the iPhone) and Android is linux based.

To set the mobile part to the side for a bit.
I can't deside on if I should get an ODB scanner, and if I should.
    What should it be...
I see that DealExtreeme have some nice prices on some.
This: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.16921 bluethoothed one looks promessing, but does it work?

And this USB based ones: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.28528

Both looks promessing, but do they deliver the goods?

    Hey Crinos,

I purchased that same exact ELM 327 - USB version... I can't get it to work with Win 7... that driver that's available on http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm didn't work for me. Otherwise I played around with it using XP and it read my P0178 code and cleared it. I didn't try any of the other features it has, but I guess if you run a wideband O2 sensor and a datalogger, maybe you can do some tuning?
