Need ideas on how to accomplish getting a screen fabbed into my bezel please..

nst6563 tells me that EWF makes his systems boot faster. I haven't tested that myself. EWF is pretty much a necessity on a CF card system because there are a finite number of times you can write to one of those cards. Not to mention much like an SSD writes is slower than reads. EWF with HORM isn't that much different than using hibernation, other than you always start from the exact same hibernation every single time, no shutdown required. nst6563 was getting like 12 second resumes with his system. I think he gets sub 15 second cold boots with just EWF. Hopefully he'll notice that I keep mentioning his user name and will pop in to give his 2 cents.

This is only going to be doing video (xvid avi's), GPS (Iguidance), and music.. For the most part, that's all it will do.. Will a single core Atom CPU have enough balls?

I had an EPIA M10000 a LONG time ago and that thing was slower then shiite! It also had a slow laptop HDD so that was probably part of it.. Anywho, just wondering if this will be speedy enough...

I honestly do not know. I too started out with the $h!++y VIA M10000 and it was slower then slow. Alot of people say dual core is overkill, but i see people putting more and more complicated things into the car, so they need that power. If you honestly think you will be using the system for light use or casual use, then it may be ok. For major use, Id go with dual core.

I heard boot up is a bit faster also. The main reason for using it is like Machinehead said, you do not write to the drive. There are a few benefits to this. One it saves the life of the drive. Two it writes everything to RAM, so say for example your on the internet and some b!+ch infects you PC with a virus, a simple reset will kill it. Also there are no corruptions.

Bad thing is, when installing new programs, you have to remember to turn EWF off or it will write to RAM and not be there the next time you power on. Kimota solved this by having icons on the desktop to turn EWF on and off when need be. HORM is basically hibernation, but more extreme. The PC will always hibernate from the last exact time you hibernated. So even if you did 500 tasks, once you power on, it will go to the first hibernation ever.

I did that exact same thing. Much easier than remembering the command line for that function.

So I'm assuming you guys both use this currently in your CarPC setups? How do you like it? Better than the standard windows install?

Well, I can't do hibernate in XP with my set up due to hardware issues, so I'm not using either at the moment. nst6563 is running strictly EWF, and I will be doing the same as soon as I have a free weekend to re-load my rig.

No, I plan on using it on the six PC units for the passengers, but the Main PC uses standard Windows. The problem is that when you use EWF you have to have enough RAM for it to work OK. They recommend at least 1 gig for EWF, and then you need at least 1 gig for the system to run good. Thats why I am using it on those units, they do not need to be super fast, so 2 gigs is good enough.

My main PC on the other hand has to be able to use all 4 gigs of RAM. It is doing way to many things graphically, and my GPU uses that RAM. I also run emulators, like Viva Nanno, PSXE, and Dreamcast and what not. All my components, just way to much stuff. What I do plan to do with the main system is make it stable, then make a perfect image of the HDD. If it dies i'll buy a new HDD and copy the image onto it.

LOL, well my whole point for doing it is to show that it can be done and its worth doing. I just want all passengers to enjoy their time in my car. My main point was to show that a car like a Dodge can out do any luxury car if the owner puts their mind to it.
