I have no head unit at all. I got a charger with RCA out, this way all wires are hidden and interface through the dock. The RCA out is then split into 2 rights and 2 lefts, one set for the back and one for the front. I then use amp gain/level controllers to on the fly adjust the front/back volume, placed in-line before the amp right after the dock RCA's mounted within arms reach under the dash. I use the phone itself as the master volume controller.

Talk about theft protection... there's nothing to see when I leave the car. The entire entertainment system comes with me (my phone). No touch screen, no head unit,.. nothing.

As for hands free, the iPhone has voice controls. Being that they run through the cars speakers, just hit the home button, say "call (however)" or "play (whatever)" and you have hand free calling. I find if the volume is up too loud, the other person will hear an echo but if its turned down a little they here no echo. But either way it always sounds find on your end. I have it more then loud enough and they can't hear an echo on their end.

    Here's the RCA level:

Sweet, no head unit at all, that's awesome!

I couldn't do that because I have to have am radio (sports talk fix needed daily) and don't want to stream for FM radio all the time.

I tried to go with the same hands free as you, but found people couldn't hear me properly so the sun visor mounted mic is perfect with much less echo and louder for the person on the other end to hear you better.

I'll take a video of mine when I'm finally done

    - need to figure out how to rig my freezing garage for painting ASAP (without spending $$ )!

    Here's an update:

All the glassing was done on the inside. I broke one of the supports or something cause when i put it in this morning it wasn't pretty straight. No problem, I'll just have to modify the base and re-mold to the car.

I looked at it again... not straight. Also, looking at it again, from a design perspective I think it will look better if it contours a 1/4" below the lip of the cup. Right now it contours on top of the cup and i'm not sure if I like it and if I'm not sure i got to do it over.

    - I want to bondo right up the inner silver line all around bottom and sides

I've been slowed down by cold - big snow storm in Toronto (-2 late at night when I actually have time to paint) so I'm hesitant to sand as the garage is freezing and need to find a place to spray the primer
    - i have a little electric space heater, but it's useless since the garage is not insulated much at all, so it's only warm right in front of the heater
    - do you guys think it will be ok to spray the primer and base coats right in front of the heater?

man, i hate the cold, I have so many little things on my truck to paint that I wasn't ready for the cold arrg!
Any suggestions on masking and or cheaply warming garage to paint in?

    Thanks guys!

Here's after sanding with 80 grit.

Should I keep sanding to remove imperfections and then do another layer of filler where needed or just use glazing putty for the imperfections and begin to prime?

    thanks for any input!

I also still need one round of filler after masking the phone and straightening out the lines around the screen (still haven't figured out how to mask the phone so I can clearly see the silver lines for reference )

I wanted to build up the back and sand down to perfect thickness before I filled around edges .

wow that looks great thus far! if you are wondering how to mask it off, just use two different color tapes. Put down a white tape and then use the blue tape to highlight the edge of the silver, where you want your filler to go up to.

As for the steps, i would sand that down with 120-220, then high build primer, then get out your red spot putty. Put that down in all the imperfections, let it dry for a half hour, then sand it down all the way with 220, then prime again and you will have less imperfections to fill until they are all gone.

racorbit is going for a cleaner finish (surface, edges, etc) not a complete redo.
