VW MKV PC bezel and case

Okay, here is the basic idea: combine factory VW MKV stereo with Lilliput EBY701 LCD, and use the result as a case for carputer.

Step 1: Acquire a factory VW MKV stereo to use as a case for the carputer and a EBY701. As always, Ebay is the place!
Step 2: Gut out the stereo down to the last part. The picture might be disturbing to some of you VW fans. The only parts I am interested in are the case itself and the front bezel. You know the case will fit in the dash, and as long as you can fit all the PC components inside and have proper ventilation, you should be fine.

Step 3: Making sure that the EBY701 screen will fit inside the stereo bezel. As a comparison, Scosche VW2317B bezel is shown in the upper left corner along with the still intact stereo bezel and the EBY701:

Step 4: Cut the factory stereo bezel and the EBY701 bezel, so they fit inside each other. I hope I don't cut too much:

Step 5: Glue the two bezels together:

    Step 6: First fit:

Step 6: Filling the gaps with filler:

    Step 7: Sanding:

Step 8: Repeat for the other side:

Close up. Note how the original button holes for the LCD are intact. No need to relocate the buttons.

Awaiting paint. Notice that I did not fill the CD slot at the top - I am planning on attaching a slot-loading CD-ROM drive there.

    Stay tuned. More to come!

Sorry to inform you, your bezel is going to crack quick. Without sanding the plastic at all, it will not stick. Also bondo should not be used to bond two pieces together.

Actually, the bezel is going to be 3D scanned and later rapid prototyped as a single piece. The bondo was used to fill the gaps and create a smooth surface for the scanner to read.
