That is 100% untrue. Everyone works differently. What I do is order a second of what I want to build, build it, and if I do not like it, change it, then once I like the way it is, make a perfect clean copy on the second one. Of course my install has alot of parts I cant seem to find, so I have had to experiment with only one thing. In the end its worked out for me.
Im with you!
I think they where just having a bad day. Usually we are very insightful.
I will chim in on the situation and unfortuantely its negative and positive.
Have you looked at the VMI70 from http://short-circuit.com? It is litearally one of the only motorized screens left. Problem is motorized screen with VGA ware very rare. Modders that decided to basically modify their dash to a double din, basically killed that market, so companies stopped making them. Thats why the EBY701 is so popular. I originally had a motorized screen, but it didnt look OEM, at all, so I went with a double din with mine originally having a 1.5 din. My understanding is that the VMI70 is a server screen. Its made for server cases so the IT specialist can see whats going on. Comapines though are selling it as a car screen and unfortuantely it cant stand up to the constant opening and closing. Also because it is made for server cases, it has support on the back when opened. In our vehicles there is no back, so if you hit the touch screen the whole screen wobbles back then forward, which kills the gears. The other issue is these people use plastic gears when they should be using metal. After awhile the gears get worn down.
I want to install three screens in my dash, one in the middle, then one for passenger, one for driver. i tired to build my own like you because I wanted to use EBY701 units, but I ran into soooooooooooooooooooooooo many road blocks that I decided to install 2 VMI70 screens and call it a day. You are facing alot of issues, but if you decide to do it, I give you props. The only one I have seen build their own from scratch is BugBite, I think. He is the one you want to ask for advice. I will note though that he built his on the top of the dash, which is less headache. OHHHHH I just remembered, coucouillu, basically took a motorized screen but redesigned it to look OEM. He redid the original radio, intergrated the motorized screen. Take a look at his work log and P/M him. 2006 Audi A3 2.0 TDI. Symphony II PCCAR : OEM Indash Screen Prototype. Full pics!!
