Towel or possibly making another faceplate that was older audio looking device.

In college, I my helped my friend take his old Toyota radio apart to make a cover for his alpine. Sitting in the car you knew something wasn't right but from outside ... no problems.

fabricate a faceplate that covers the screen plus a half inch on all sides. in the corners glass in pins or nails. these nail/pins will correspond with pin/nail holes in the monitor housing. when you leave the car you just clip it on to cover the monitor. It'll basically be like the mounting concept used for speaker grills in home theater speakers. Expect this one wont clip in, it just slides in.

Get a busted double din stereo and just make a way for it to attach over the screen.

as standard this car has a single din.....to install a double din you have to remove the heater vents....so even with a busted double din stero it'll look out of place

How about a black piece of construction paper with knobs and a radio drawn on it.

The important thing here is theft deterrent, not that it pass inspection. This might be enough:

Or you might be able to cover the area with a card bearing a photo of the OEM heater vents and radio -- just enough to fool the passing thief.
