    USB extention

hello everyone, i just finished building my carpc. i used the intel D525MW motherboard with a 2.5" SSd hard drive for the operation system and a regular 2.5" hard drive for files along with the M3 AUTX auto power On/Off powersupply and the M350 mini ITX case. I was hoping to be able to mount this in the cabin but unfotunatly I have no room so i have to mount it in the trunk area. so here is a few question:

    1. Would i be able to plug a usb cable to the back of the motherboard into one of the 5 usb plugs and run it about 17 ft for the touch screen and also one more for the usb plug inside the cabin? or will i have powering problems.

    2. run to RCA cables with 3.5mm plugged into the back of the motherboard.

    3. 17' VGA cable possible?

or wold any of these create a glich or problems.

    Thatnk you very much.

    1. Yes. Buy a USB cable that's an active repeater. They are 16 ft long.

I have 15 feet passive usb extensions with no issues, but if you want to be safe follow his advice and go for a repeater cable.

as for VGA, just remember unless you get a properly shielded cable and have the perfect path of travel your analog VGA wire will pick up some amount of noise traveling over several feet.

in my last install i ran 15 or so feet of usb and vga passively w/o an issue. doesn't mean the same will happen for you, but you probably would be fine. i'd get some cables at monoprice and do some tests before the install.

thank you guys very much. i installed everything and it works great and no issues with the wire lengths. I only faced one issue, the monitor has these static lines going trough the screen from top to bottom, they are not bad but still very annoying, i tried swapping my vga cable out for a very high quality one and no go they are still there, so i was told that i need to use a ground loop. when the car is one it gets worste. any suggestions for this problem and if ground loop is what i need how and where would i install it? thank you friends very much for taking the tim to answer my newbie question.

How are you powering your monitor? I had some serious interference when connecting to a four accessory outlet that I had wired to the fusebox. I switched to the cigarette lighter and the interference disappeared. Now I'm running from my black box pc case that I bought from mo-co-so (has a 12v output specifically for monitors) and it's perfect.
