2012 Hyundai Sonata - interesting challenge for Monitor placement.

First off, hello - I haven't been around here in years! Good to be back.

I just got myself a new 2012 Hyundai Sonata LTD. I want to do a nice, simple system running Riderunner w. MP3s, Iguidance, Photos, perhaps some basic web surfing, etc. I do not have any desire to change my highly integrated stock audio system which is as much of the dash as the dash is and supports bluetooth, hd radio, XM, USB Drive, etc. So, that leaves me the area below the radio and just above the shifter for a screen. There is nothing there except a pocket I dont' mind losing and the outlets and USB connector which I can relocate. I think I'll do a basic PC in the trunk, neatly tucked away. The problem with the area I am showing is that it presents a challenge to me. 1. It is not very wide... only about 177mm, which means even the least wide lilliput I can find wont fit w/ the casing on. 2. There is no easily removable dash piece for which to fab to. I will have to figure some way to make the piece that will hold the monitor, attach as is. I am open to any and all suggestions/opinions.

As of now, I'm thinking of getting a Lilliput 669GL and trying to shave down the sides of the casing and then figure out how to fill in the gaps. OR, perhaps get one of the $20 empty double din kits and shave that down.

I photoshopped out the shifter for clarity of viewing.

Its not the cards you're dealt, its how you play the hand!

I know they used to make kits that made installation of a double din screen easy, while still keeping all your factory components. Here are some links. The kits have been discontinued but you might be able to find one somewhere if you look hard enough..

Wow... very interesting. I surely haven't seen that. That would be ideal for placement... looks like it replaces just my clock display and lowers everything else down... I wonder if there is anything more to have to do to relocate the factory HU and heater controls down. Very interesting.

Lankin, thanks for starting the wheels turning for me. I ended up ordering a similar kit from Koreanautoimports. THANKS for the find. As soon as it comes in, I'll be moving forward.

Happened to be browsing here for something else and came across this thread. For reference, there is a huge Korean company that manufactures aftermarket bezels for all KDM vehicles, mainly Hyundai and Kia.

Their US site was recently launched and is here: http://www.jycustomusa.com/

Otherwise, you may have some luck on "GMarket", which is a Korean market place similar to Amazon - www.gmarket.co.kr

Hope this helps someone in the future.
