I have a 2001 civic. This is what I did for the screen. The second and final iteration is on page 2.
just seing what some think. I have a 2000 civic that has a prety large opeining in the dsh for a screen. previously had a 7" screen in there with video only hooked to dvd player. looked really nice since it fit inthe factory bezel perfectly. now I havethe car pc up and running im going with the 0.1" widescreen i have and need of some insight of what to do about the bezel. Wondering if it would be easier and turn out a better fitting/ more professional product if i cut up the oem bezel and modified it to fit the large screen while removing the 2 a/cvents and the climate controls. Or,,,, if i should just start from scratch with a piece of high density blue foam, and then sand and shape it to what i want, either make a mold of it then a fiberglas part from the mold or just lay some glss over the foam and make the finished part that way. i have the ability to make it either way just would like some comments on hich way is preferred and turns out a better result.
nice work, i had something similar before with my smaller screen that fit behind the oem bezel. now.... thing is my new screen is 10.1" and takes almost the entire opening in the dash. having to relocate my a/c controls and loose the center a/c vents. si i was wondering if its even worth using the oem bezel for just the perimeter of it where it mates to the dash then making the bezel to fit the screen. with my screen its just a raw panel so i dont have a frame or bezel to be able to graft into my bezel. almost everything is going to have to be from scratch.
I see, I didn't get the 10.1" thing before. I would def get an extra OEM bezel remove what you don't need keeping the attachment locations. Fabricating new mounting points would suck. I would suggest making a frame around the panel out of would or acrylic,.. something that you can work off that will give you nice sharp edges around the panel right from the start.
yeah i have a few extra bezels. hoping i can get the local plastic shop to laser cut me a piece of abs plastic for the front of the screen. or may do a machined aluminum piece and go with the brushed look. then use the pieces of the oem bezel hacked and stretched and widened to hopefully make something presentable.
but yeah trying to replicate the oem clip mounts would be very difficult.
