That would look SUPPPPPER whack on a car that has a custom computer, Amp's, Subwoofers, Custom paint/doors/dash/Leather and new carpet.Quote:

i would prefer something like the attached image of an seat ibiza radio remote, it's attached behind the steering wheel, and should look more OEM ;)
what part of the " i cant pass cables through my steering wheel" you failed to understand ? :D If i used something BEHIND the steering wheel, then it would be as "disturbing" as using the touch screen instead... whats the point?? although it could be a good addition to the steering wheel buttons, for some less used functions.
^^^ you can awlays pass wire from the wheel to the/down the shaft....you just havent figured out how to do it yet...
settra, do a search for 'slip ring' this is how OEM steering wheel buttons passwires through the steering wheel.
Or maybe you can get a later model Audi's steering wheel which will fir your car and use the buttons on that.

Enforcer, wouldn't a new wheel require a cable reel be installed? I'm guessing that is what the slip ring is. I've not installed my new wheel and am unsure where exactly the cable reel sits. I just know how they work and I see in all my electrical diagrams that anything going to the steering wheel just says "cable reel"
The 'cable reel' is really the 'slip ring' or 'clock spring'. It usually fits to the back of the steering wheel and plugs into it.
Basically it is a flat cable that is rolled up into a spring.
There are three main things to be concerned about retrofitting a newer Steering Wheel.
1. the actual fit to the sterring wheel stalk. - Using a steering wheel from the same Car Maker usually gurantees this but you still need to check.
2. Airbag fitment and trigger - If your car does not already have an airbag, then this is not a worry.
3. Will the new steering wheel and it's 'cable reel' (clock spring/ slip ring) fit and connect OK with the stalks.
4. Decoding the signals from the buttons once you have connected them through the cable reel.
