Thread: 2002 Chevy Silverado 1500 - bezel

I don't think that will work. I know there isn't room for a 2 din display where the stock radio goes, I have a 2000 Silverado, and it has had every setup under the sun. I'm currently using a MEMO 7" touchscreen display with a clever mounting system as my screen, but it took some work to make it usable. You won't be able to fit a screen that size in that slot without either moving your A/C, cutting up your bezel, and creating a lot of work for yourself.

Moving AC overhead would be work, but doable. I installed power windows in my truck and put the controls up there, but it takes some work to make it look clean.

See this is the tread where it says that there is room - link. They say it will, I'm gonna have to go to a junk yard tomorrow to see.
Never took the bezel off, does it just pop off or does it unscrew?

I read it a little different than you. I'm not sure he's talking about the bezel but to me it sounds like he's talking about the mounting bracket for the radio itself. This opens the whole inside the dash to a bigger opening to put the double din in. The you still need to do something with the bezel.

Went to the junk yard today, picked up 2 din bezel from 2004 Silverado 1500, $15.00!
The 2 din bezel from 03-05 Silverado 1500 definitely fits 02 Silverado. The climate control is a bit to high, so it leaves a hole. I'll take some photos tomorrow.
But I'm thinking going back tomorrow and picking up the whole inside, where the stereo and and the climate control go. I'm guessing it will fit as well.

The video show it all. I was going to tell you earlier today that it definitely has been done before but I was busy at work. I have an 02 avalanche and I did that before I decided to move my A/C controls to the upper console as you suggested to fit a bigger screen.

As far as your questions about the A/C control goes is this what you had in mind?

That overhead console does look great, I'm not that talented to do such thing. So, you just cut the the connectors from A/C and extended through the sides of windshield? I saw in your worklog the connectors hanging.
Wondering if I can just use 03-05 A/C control unit in my 02? Have you looked at that? Maybe match the wires?
See, I'm only looking to put a 7" or 7.7" Samsung Galaxy 2, from Verizon. So, I don't need a lot of room.

What if I told you that this was my very first attempt at fabricating anything? Before this piece, I had never used bondo or fiberglass or any of that stuff ever.
It took me a whole year to work up the guts to do this. I even purchased a separate overhead console and a A/C controller in the event I messed things up.
As far as the controls go type of control go you have to verify if you have automatic climate control or not.
If you are thinking of using the digital versions on the 03 - 05, you're out of luck.
It has never been done and it never will because the work involved is just too much.

I have done the research and I'll tell you this. The whole computer data bus for both systems are completely different. Not only will the wires not match but the whole wiring harness is different and the color coding is not the same.
In addition you will need to reprogram the car's different BCMs and a whole lot more. It is definitely not worth the amount of work involved.

Id say gimmie your address and I will send you one for my 03 Avalanche so you can take care of it for me.. Actually if you have a console like that I could just send you some controls and you can use your spare one..
