    Moving PC to Boot

    Afternoon all.

I currently have my Car pc in my glove box. I want to move it to the rear of the car.... a few questions regarding this. I wondered if i could get some help from others in the same position.

    1. USB extension for USB screen ? Will this be a problem?
    2. Having the PC and a sub in the boot will this cause damage to the PC at all?
    3. how do i go about making a boot build for the PC so i can mount it on one of the sides of the boot in a enclosure?

    Thanks in advance

    Ryan

I would make sure you buy a good usb cable preferably without the amplifier on the end. Having PC and amp is not a problem as long as you get adequate power to the amp and pc. I think starting of with wood is your best bet for isolation and protection of PC and components, please easy to work with. Good luck SNO

I used a 16' usb cable with 2 port hub on mine, and have the touchscreen plus Joycon steering wheel adapters connected. I have not had a single issue with these 2 devices connected to that cable. Anything longer than 16' or connecting things that require power like a hard drive, all bets off.

    Mine is ebay item# 230912528904

I've extended USB for my touchscreen to a hub by hacking off the cable and soldering it to some Cat5 and it works perfectly. I'm using 3 twisted pairs for power and the remaining pair for data hooked to a 4 port Monoprice.com hub. This works perfectly daily for me. In the past I connected my USB keyboard/mouse dongle and touch panel at the same time and this also worked perfectly. (I have since moved the dongle to the trunk where it still works fine.)

If hook up a USB WiFi dongle to the hub, if anything else is connected, all of the devices connected to the hub disconnect. I imagine this is due to the current draw out of a single USB port on the PC.

I have no problems using touchscreen and HPTuners a device at the same time. It seems to draw its power from the OBD-II port and isn't super bandwidth intensive.

A little off topic but in terms of sound cards what USB sound card would you recommend.. i need 5.1 so i can control the Subwoofer separately to the rest of the speakers.

I use the Diamond 7.1 usb box. http://www.diamondmm.com/xs71u-diamo...io-device.html Very happy with it, but I am not an audiophile. SNO

I went a different route and used a 2 channel USB DAC, then fed it to an MS-8 DSP which separated all the channels as well as time aligned, phase correction, and logic7 surround.
