Are you shmobin a ford escort? I have one of those too, but i never drive the thing anymore. I gotta 00 accord a lil over a year ago. But yeah, i was thinking about putting a carputer in that car first so i could test everything, and get it 100% the way i liked before i put it in the 'cord. And yes, thats a good place to put a screen, it would fit perfectly, and it would be the easiest place to put it. But the only thing is it isnt very visable while youre driving. If you had a GPS screen that you would use for directions, you would have to look down and off the road to actually see it.
7"
dont have the screen quite yet so cant tell you exactly how it fits
its a 93 accord
theres really no place to put it where it is very visible (unless you can suggest something)
i could mount someone on top of the dash but thats a bit tacky and very open to theft
you dont look at a gps screen all the time anyway, just when you need to know where to go (the software should warn before a turn through audio)
bubbrubb your right in your last comment. If i were you ide really find some way to put it up above your vents infront of the clock. More work but it will be well worth it in terms of ease of use and safety.
if i was able to make a 90 degree hinge for the screen and then have it front of the clock it would be ideal but without the hinge i would never do it
a screen just out in the open on top of the dash is way too tempting for thieves
if i could fold the screen down and make it just an ambigous object id be in business
i was talking more something built into the dash but now that you say fold down you could have most of the work done for you. Check out cieling mount enclosures.
thats an idea
problem with those though is that id have to mod my own lcd inside
none of the overhead lcd enclosures have the high quality display im looking for
id also have to flip the lcd upside down
woooaaaah i have the same car!! but a 91... I remember i posted something a while ago asking where i should put the screen. Check out this guys...

I know thats what you dont want to do, but you could always take it off and put it in your glovebox when you leave the car. I think im going to try to make some sort of flip up thing on the top of my dash. Keep in mind if you mount the screen at the bottom, the gearshift gets in the way of vision for people in the back. Whatever you do, let me know about it. Im not going to buy my screen until i figure out what the hell im gonna do with it
but moding the stuff is half the fun. Fiberglass itches and bondo dust gets everywhere.
