    Designs for slide in/out screen

    hey, just wondering if you guys can post what you have/seen or planning to do to make the enclosure for the screens and specifically, for being able to slide it in/out.

    So far i figured i can make the roller part fairly easily using some plexiglass, which will give me the horizontal movement for the screen. But now I'm stuck on the vertical part, just not sure what would be a good design for being able to angle the screen.

    Here is what i'm talking about:

    |||||||-------

    ||
    ||
    ||------

    where the (-'s) are the rollers to provide the horizontal movement and the (||'s) represent the screen.

    Any help would be appreciated!

    what about a hinge that runs the lengthe of the whole setup that tilts up 90 deg:

    ||||||||0---------
    ====== =======

    =||
    =||
    =||
    =||
    =||
    0-----------
    =========

    where - is the rollers
    || in the first design is the screen,
    = is the hinge, with the joint being 0

    That is the most obvious solution, question that comes to my mind is how to lock the hinge securely and at the same time make it so it's easy to fold it down also.

    Anyone know any sources for a 90 degree lock hinge? Because that would solve all the problems on the spot!

    another hinge type option:

    I've taken old laptops apart before for parts. The hinge on the screen is just a little thing that looks kinda likd this: __==__ (where __ is a flat part with screw holes and == is the round hinge).

    with the right leverage (the laptop screen) they open and close fairly easily, and hold the screen in whatever position you choose. separted from the screen, without leverage, you cant even turn them with your bare hands. takes 2 pairs of pliers and a good amount of effort to move them.

    anyway, just thought that a couple (or even one) of those would make a good hinge for it. I can take picture of one and post it if your interested.

    it seems you would want more resistance then less in the car...

    I'll post a pic late tonight when I get home.

    Dead laptops is where I got my 4.

    depending on how its setup, there might even be too much resistance in them, kinda thing you would just have to try... plus each pair is a little different.

    heres a pic of the two that i have. actual hinge part is very small, however most of the metal is needed to securely attach the hinge to the assembly, because there's alot of stress put on the joint.
