    Interesting application... need help

I am going to be doing a 7" Lilliput in the dash ABOVE my Alpine CVA-1003 (on modded xbox right now). This will be a "pod" or something to that extent to kind of simulate the hump for the gauge cluster. Here is a pic of what I am talking about. I have never done fiberglass or bondo. Which would be preferred for this application? How do I start this? i want to occupy that enter big top-side vent. I will remove it and make a pod that has the same shape as that vent so as to fill that hole well. But I don't know where to start.

It would be easiest to sacrifice the center piece for the project. Remove it, check what clearance is available underneath, and determine the screen's location. Cut away the necessary plastic. Use model aircraft ply, hobby-quality super glue, and assemble the screen bezel/mount portion of the part. I also sacrificed the front of the Lilliput case and glued it onto the framework. The part on the sides that will taper away to match the dash hump can then be made from Balsa-Foam or balsa wood, then shaped and glassed over. Finally, bondo is only used for finish filler work before primer. All of the materials should be available at the local hobby shop.

So you're saying rather than removing and building some sort of frame\base... use the vent as the base and build upward?

Absolutely. Cut it up and build the screen into and onto it. Semi-recessed is what I would try to do if there is enough clearance underneath, and maybe slightly angled to the driver. I like mine recessed because I can rest my wrist on something when I am using the touchscreen.

Ok, I think I might give it a shot real soon. I may toy with fiberglassing first though.
