Thread: plastic/rubber coating my glovebox

hey buddy

i had my carputer installed in the GB of my A4 for a while, and i know what you mean about the lining. What did was just mount the mobo on a thin piece of wood with standoffs and i had no problems with static. Not sure how this might help, just saying that it might not be as bad as you expect.

you could just paint it.......that might take care of any static stuff you might have. dunno....

you can use a can of spray rhino liner. It's truck bed liner in a spray can. It will have a slight texture to it though.

Jusatry can you hit me with some pics of your glovebox setup. And what do you mean by standoffs? Maybe I am thinking more into it but you know I'd have to goto my car one morning and see my board all roasted (pun not intended).

stand offs are those little brass things that u usually screw into your case... then on the other side there is a threaded hole (so u can screw teh mobo to the top of the standoff....)

they just stand the mobo off the surface of whatever they are attached to...

Thanks toadster123, all these years it didn't occur to me that those little things had a name, I used to call them "those metal things you screw down a mobo with"
But jusatry Id still like to see a picture.

my setup has since been uninstalled and i didnt get any clean pics

ill see what i can scrounge up, but till then let me describe it:

the mobo was mounted to a piece of hardwood which had 2 legs on one side and none on the other, thus standing it at about a 30 deg angle. that way the door to the GB did not interefere when closing. to the underside of the wood i mounted a laptop HDD - so i could use the short casetronics IDE cord. then in the din slot above the opening in the GB i put the slim DVD drive and the m-audio sonica theater card. all the wiring (atx, usb, VGA, etc) went through the perforrated hole in the back of the GB where the A/C is supposed to go. the PSU was mounted with the shutdown controller to a piece of wood which fit in the double din slot, with the lilliput as the front.
