Thanks, something like this makes me consider ripping out my dash mounted carputer and putting something like your case in there with a pull out LCD. Would make removal alot simpler.

Also I just had a thought, it would seem like a centronics connector would be perfect for making the unit easily removable. It would require alot of soldering though, but IMO would be worth it evertime it had to be removed.

Cool, very creative. I think it's the first DIN- homemade case yet. Have you had it on for a period of time? I mean like to show a DVD? I was wondering about cooling. I guess it would be easy enough to make additional holes.. Great JOB!

I wish I had slot loading drive foir better look, but only Panasonic make them which is not my favourite brand .
Anyone has link to a regular slim slot DVD-ROM ?
Jbors, do you have any information about the IDE DOC module you use? Brand (MSystems I assume) model, capacity, where to buy from etc.

According to VIA it can work up to 85C. In my case mounted in a dash it never went up to 73C. I was playing movies for about 3 hours...
Once I install it I will run the stress test as it will be hot this Sunday in SF.

IDE DOC module? Is that the EXCELERATE chip I see you plug into the IDE?

What did you use to have the slim DVD rom work with IDE? I think in the pic it looks like an adaptor of some kind.

Also, you built the case all by yourself? All those curves and stuff. It looks professional

Nice and clean!...very professional design. One thing I always design into all of my projects is repeatability, and it looks like you pulled that off very well. Again, very nice job!
