    In-dash computer with DVD ROM

    Guys,
Just wanted to hear if anyone has experience in doing in-dash computer.
I want to be able to use DVD-ROM and don't really need big screen, 128x64 LCD will be fine for me. So I attach my vision of how it is going to look like. The LCD will reside in another 1-DIN unit along with keyboard and amplifier.
Does anybody tried that before, may be some links or suggestions ?
    Thanks.

    Have one already

Started to do the same thing, but I am now leaning towards something else. But, I found a good site for some of the internal components.

    http://www.ultim8pc.co.uk/

This will allow you to fit a lot more into something that needs to utilize the most for the space available...

The case I originally purchased for the application was the C134 from:

    http://www.casetronic.com/Product/Ba...minicheck.html

This case is suppose to fit into a 1 din slot, but I have never tried. Still have the case, but stripped everything out of it. Unless you have a slim DVD drive, laptop style, slim hard drive, again laptop style, and a low profile memory chip, from the first site I placed in here, then the case won't close. But, if you purchase everything, then this case offeres a COMPLETE computer in a case for a 1 din slot.

If you need any more information on the case or how I got the hardware for it, them please feel free to e-mail me...

Yes I'm aware of that case. It is longer than a regular DIN slot but still fits sometimes. And it does not look like in-dash unit. More like regular computer.
The case I'm trying to build is having regular memory, either dvd-rom+ DOM( disk on module IDE ) or hdd along with the stub on the front panel+ PW-70+ power sequencer+ fan.
I'll try to post actual pics in a short time.

Here are some pics of my unit. It is still not installed, as I'm in process of building a Linux image for it.
    Some info:
    EPIA-M6000
    Slim DVD-ROM
DOC 32Mb with Freepia( for now )/Linux
    512Mb DDR
    Keypad
    In-dash monitor( not vga )

I'll post some pics once I install it next week. Let me know if you want more pics of this one...

jbors: That computer case is beautiful. Did you make it yourself? Mind sharing some dimensions?

jbors, I have to admit that your case looks much better than mine
Can I get some more details how you did it? What is in the case?
The height if the fan/heatsink is 33mm(according to VIA specificatoins), the DVD is 17mm, there is about 3-5mm soldering wires ends under the mainboard, the M/Board is about 1mm thick, which makes all this about 54mm in height - more than the single-DIN height. How you didi it!?!

    Thanks,
The case was made by myself. Simple enclosure from metal sheet. Simple plastic stub.
    As of dimensions. Here it is: w/h/d 182.5 x 54 x 178mm
The metal case is just 1mm taller than the standard DIN whereas the plastic cover is 2mm smaller in all directions. So it fits perfectly at least in my Golf.

As I mentioned there is no HDD in the case. I decided to have DOC instead as it lasts longer.

I can post pics with open case so you can see it yourself.

Do you have CAD drawings of the thing by any chance? Or any sort of drawings?

    Thanks.

jbors: your golf probably has 2X 1Din slots where are you going to mount the screen ? Are you getting an indash screen or are you opting for something else ? Are you still keeping your head unit ?!
