Jeep Cherokee: LCD pod build. Have questions.

Hello, I'm trying to build a place for my LCD display in my Cherokee and would like some tips. I have decided to use the area of the Ashtray in the center console. <bare.jpg> I am thinking that this should be fairly easy. In my younger years I've buily many subwoofer boxes etc and hope the skills carry over. I have built the two sides out of 3/4" mdf. <wood_sd & wood_frt.jpg> I made a template for the front piece that the display would be mounted into out of cardboard. <template_frt and template_sd.jpg>. After I finish the front piece I plan to cover the whole assy with subwoofer box carpet to try to make it look halfway decent. Now to my difficulty... I planned on making the front piece out of plexiglass. The problem is that plexiglass doesn't cut very well as I have found out. Basic shapes are easy but cutting in slots and what not is mroe complex. So now I am trying to look for another material. Any ideas would be appreciated. I don't want to try to use fiberglass b/c I've never worked with it before.

Im currently doing a carpc in a jeep cherokee too. My plan is to put an in-dash flip out LCD in the location where the middle vent was, but your idea seems like it would work...The only issue is if the shifter would block the view too much.

Have you looked in the FAQ yet?

ive been on many other vbullitin forums where older threads are highlighted a different color
also where searching if offerered before you post

where when u post something new (as a newbie) it need mods approval

where if u post something youmust scrollthru big bold letters that say MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SEACHED 1st to get to the submit button

I know the mods here have nothing to do with this and this is a bit of a rant but DAMNIT
use the tools you have like vbullitin and run a more friendly for all users forum
    Examples include:

less flames for serch as a certian percent of ppl will actually do it

less spam cause 1st posted in the FS area will be a red flag in most cases

and most of all less headaches for the mods and long time users

but dont listend to me what do i know, sure its a priveledge to be a mod but it probably more work than fun right now. you dont cut down a tree with a razor blade so why would you want to run an inefficient site with more clutter than needed less clutter = less bandwidth

    GAH im DONE

I agree, as a newbie I do search and search often before posting or asking something... in countless other threads the mods say "search first you idiot" in not so many words and then when somebody searched and posted in an old topic they get chastised... so, what is the "cutoff" for posting in an old topic, because it certainly isn't posted anywhere that I can see. I realize 2+ years in a thread is kind of a no-brainer but what about a few months? Also, as stated above it isn't hard at all to use the tools for VBulletin to lock any and all threads that are old and/or not allow standard posters to post in them.

It's not that the thread is old, so much as the thread was resurrected with no worthwhile input.

Considering the OP hasn't participated on these forums since Oct 2004, it's unlikely that he'd benefit from teh suggestion that was posted.

now, resurrecting an older thread to add new information or to ask a question about the content is a whole other matter. There's logic to that, and it adds to the forum, without question. You can't tell me that briang here added anything of any significance to a 2-year old thread, however.
