where are you mounting the lcd?
I just finished painting the console for my brother's 96 Chevy Cavalier carputer. He'll be leaving next week for Aurora, IL so I want him not to get bored on the road and/or get lost (he'll be 18 in July, this is his first solo trip). This is my graduation gift for him. I took a few pictures of the finished project before the actual car installation

I'm going to put it on a cellphone mount on the cupholder. I want my brother to be able to take the LCD out of the car. We live in a shady apt complex (moving out as soon as my lease is up) so I don't want it swiped and/or damaged. once upon a time someone broke into my car, tried to steal my stereo, since he couldn't take it out, they just messed it all up, I don't want this to happen to the screen. Sorry for the lameass pictures, my camcorder doesn't take good pictures inside, maybe I'll post some more today, taken outside in the sunlight

1 month after moving out of my old ghetto apts, into a house in a good neighborhood, my car got broken into and the same thing happened. They just tore up a bunch of stuff cause they couldnt get the radio out.Originally Posted by b_nom

i love it i got a 95 cav that i plan to put a puter in any suggestions anything important i need to know about b4 i get to far into the project?
Well, don't put the hardrive or anything else under the little tray on the console, I had to redo mine, because there's a support for the console that goes right under there. I had to find a alternate location for it, but couldn't take any pictures (my brother left the day after we installed it). Also, when he gets back, we'll have to find a way to get some ventillation into the console, because it got hot in there (but I have an ITPS, and I think that's why the motherboard got hot), but it got hot enough *only* after like 8 hrs of constant driving.
Where are you putting your monitor? Are you embedding it on the dash? I will take some more pictures when my brother gets back, but that won't be till like late July.

Nice to see another cavalier install. I have my monitor in at the moment. The space I wanted to mount a screen wasn't big enough for a liliput so I just got a cheap flipout monitor, Nothing Special, mine will be mounted in the trunk, I like your idea of mounting it under there, but mines a little different, it has kind of a tray, have you noticed the area near there, if you take it off there is a big space near i suppose the heater core, I was suppost to take pictures of it for some one but never got arount to it. Maybe I will do it tonight.
I know what you mean about thieves, its funny tho because you have to more or less take the whole dash off to get the stereo out.

What cup holder does he use now?
I know which space you mean, but my brother and I decided for the console, as that would be easier to work on (we got a console form a junkyard, that way, when he wants to sell the car, just remove the console, put the original in, and away you go), and the monitor is mounted on a cellphone mount on the front cupholder, in front of the radio.

Yep, I was going to try to get a dash bezel to make a case for a liliput, I might still do that some day. I like my car being stock too, since mods would just make its value decrease. Do you happen to know what the space is in the trunk, if you crawl in and look upwards, there looks to be a space that would hold a itx motherboard and some other components, maybe its a rack for a premium sound setup or something
