whats an adapter plate?
I work in a laser shop where we cut various forms of steel with CO^2 Lasers and have made plenty of these before for people on other message boards, mainly for car audio installations. If you submit to me a design of a flat blank and give me the material specs (thickness, type, etc) I can cut the adapter plates for you and have them shipped out usually within 48hrs. I can crate plates out of various exotic materials as well such as lexan, acrylic, high grade stainless, aluminum, and sometimes even titanium, depending on what surplus materials we have in the shop.
If anyone is interested you can email me at brandon@overflow.wwnet.net
Of course these won't be free, obviously, but they'll be cheaper than having them custom made somewhere else and more professional looking than what you could accomplish with a drill and dremmel.
Hopefully I didn't overstep my bounds making this post, considering this is my first post to the forums here. I tinkered with making a carputer a while back when the mini-itx was first released but due to financial strains sold it for dirt cheap on ebay.
I'm going to start a new project now that prices have come down, <$100.00US for a mini-itx mobo and <$300.00US for a 7" touchscreen is way way WAY cheaper than their costs when I attempted this the first time.
Look forward to more posts from me, and probably some ignorant questions to boot.
But if you are interested in some nice quality adapter plates drop me a line at the above mentioned email address and I'll be glad to help out.
whats an adapter plate?
EPIA 800, DWW-7VGA LCD w/Touchscreen, 256mb ram, dvd rom, ati radeon 7000 video card, 80 gb 3.5" hard drive.
Abapter plates can be used to fit item A into item B where it normally wouldn't fit in the first place.
I've made them for people I know to give a more professional appearance to their carputers by allowing them to connect their Opus PSU to a case where it otherwise would not fit properly.
Other plates I have made are to allow people to fit 6-1/2" speakers into a 6x9 speaker slot, riser plates for subwoofers to give more depth clearance on the back end, and have even made some really nice faceplates for in-dash installations for LCD and VFD displays.
where are you? I work for a company that makes CO2 laser cutting systems.
Metro Detroit.
What company do you work for and what lasers do you make?
Bystronic. We just came out with a 5200 watt laser. We also came out with a high speed machine, it can make 10 round .125 inch holes a second. I'm, the service manager.
If I send you a template, can you cut a flat, face plate out of ABS to cover my lilliput 7" screen? It would be a rectangular piece about 9x4.5 with a center opening about 6x3.75 . What would you charge for it? ThanksOriginally Posted by brandon
