Thread: Building a Center Console

YOu know this whole fiberglasss is nice, but that is a lot more work. I guess my thinking is a little different, I just want to get the damn thing in the car, a beautiful install in not at the top of my list. But I really don't think some good ole MDF and carpet would be that bad. I guess it is a good idea to Fiberglass the top to it looks factory at the point where it meets the dash console. Damn it, now i am thinking of fiberglasssing...

vccb5 - I've got an 02 Durango and put my carputer in the same location. Check out my pix at www.american-microsystems.com. I need to get newer pix up there as I have finished it with tweed - looks OK and added some ccfl lights and fans.

It's because the dead cat is well a cat, and it's not a clear picture of what happened to it(unlike the ****ty pic you posted) you see a tail and whats looks to be a body, thats it. You took it too far by posting some mangled face, human face not some animal.

Now the fabrication: I agree, you should carpet the thing since it is sitting on the carpeted floor.

Welp right now i dont have ANY of my carputer installed. Mr Kota is a 99 Sport reg Cab so i dont have a whole lot of room. I am just waiting to collect all my parts before i start installing it. But my plan is to put a lilli where the stock radio is. I am going to loose the center air vents so i can put the lilli a little high. I will then fab in some small air vents from another vehicle (havnt found the right ones yet). The reason i want to put the lilli a little higher then stock radio is becaue i want to put a dvd-rom just below it.

Since i am in a reg cab I'll be putting the carputer under the passenger seat. I am going to ahve to build a custom case since i dont have alot of height, but i dont think I'll have any problems. Oh, and since the head unit I am currently using has an AUX in i am going to remove the face plate, solder the pins so it still runs away from the actual deck. Install the deck in the glove box and put the face into a Overhead console ill be ripping from a junked Dakota. (I know it sounds wierd to keep the deck, but i want a better volume control then the touch screen. Using the knob on my deck will be MUCH mroe handy. and besides i can still use the radio untill i find a good replacement.)

Hopefully i will ahve all my parts soon and can show you exactly waht im meaning.

I am trying to do the same thing in my 68 firebird. I think I am going to go with wood, some bondo, 1/2 closed cell foam and imitation leather to match my interior. For some reason I am not able to see your picture. Do you think you can help me out? thanks
