Having problems with paint-Weird frosting effect

Hi guys, I custom molded my lilliput into my dash using the original lilliput case and bondo. It looks really nice, I even put a DVD tray below the screen. The problem is, and I had it before when I tried painting a while back ago without the tray, is that instead of leaving a nice black paint finish it looks very hazy. Theres a lot of light grays in it. It looks kinda "frosty". When I get home I may be able to get a picture.

I put "sandable filler primer" over my bondo when I was done and sanded that pretty smooth, then painted one coat and got this effect. Could it be the humidity? It was 57% humidity last night when I painted it at about 7:00PM. The temperature was decent, about 88 degrees. I'm thinking the weather isn't the problem. The paint I used was duplicolor universal flat black.

Also, the paint is a bit "mushy" if you try to push it in unless you let it dry like overnight. I know this from it happening before. And I don't know how I managed to get it to stop doing that, I think I bought a different can of paint. I thought maybe you guys have had this weird frosting effect before and could share with me what you did to fix it. Sorry for the long post

That frosting or haze effect is common on wood finishing at that temp and humidity.

Smooth as in 400-600 grit. Not so smooth that the paint wont stick.

Truckin: Is my humidity too much? The paint can said 92 degrees was the max temp, didn't say anything about humidity though. If thats the case then I'm screwed cause this has been the lowest humidity lately. Btw my dash piece isn't wood

yeah, i planned on smoothing it more but wanted to see the guide coat...but my thing will have some texture to it, if you spray the paint in mists and dont put it on thick at all, and dont sand every time you paint you can get a nice texture on it which i like.

oohh i see where you are going i just used texture paint, doesn't look as effective as the way you describe, but a lot less work good luck, you could try a few more coats from different angles might get rid of the frosty look, thinking about it it may be primer coming through the paint causing the effect.

I did read that, I was relating to the humidity and finish to similar effects in wood finishing. I belive part of the issue is the humid conditions you are working in. I hope it turns out well for you.
