when its done the floor of the trunk will have this effect
and lit up
since I have a PT cruiser with a pretty nice size cargo area in back, I decided to build a 3/4" MDF subfloor to house my amp/carputer. Heres some pics of the progress
first I built a frame from 2x3"
then test fit it in the cargo area before putting it together, looks good to me
next a made a ghetto scribe to get the countour of the cargo area walls
I traced the pattern to some posterboard and transfered it to my sheet of MDF
Then I went to work with the jigsaw and cut my pattern, I then test fit it into the car
I layed out my amp/carputer on top of the subfloor to give me a good idea of the area i would need underneath.
My amp is going to be mounted under a sheet of plexiglass, and have a mirror base under it so I layed out the mirror and amp on a sheet of plywood that i'll use in between the base that i had previously made.
The plexiglass is going to be lit by LEDS and have the www.ptcrew.com logo sandblasted into it. This will cause only the logo to light up when the led's are on. the entire subfloor will be covered in diamond plate aluminum as of right now anyway, but that could change.
well thats all for now, I'll get back to the project in a few days and post pics of the progress
That's going to look very nice.
Moving right along checked the area to mount the amp and carputer
Cut out the plexi window area above the amp mounting area
The carputer will stay hidden under the MDF floor except for the 2 80 mm fan holes that will be cut to mount the cooling fans above it
Temporarily mounted the amp and test the fitment in the car
thats it for today....
Its lookin good but lemme ask u somin dont u worry bout da glass breakin ?? like if u hit a bump or maybe from too much bass?? just a thought
the mirror under the amp, well I'm not too concerned, its mirror tile and it'll be attached with spray adhesive and bolts throgh the corner, the same bolts that hold the amp in place. The amp is getting felt padding underneath to keep it from hitting the glass. it may or may not work, if it breaks oh well i'll replace it with mirrored blue acrylic sheet, which I may end up doing anywayOriginally Posted by jay187
O koo ya sorry i ment mirror insted of glass lolz but dats pretty good idea my cuzins dad has his own glass and mirror company down here so i might talk to him n get some of his strongest mirror and try this some time. also where are u gonna get the logo sandblasted i wanted to do the same but i havent found any where that has plexi around here so i havent even looked for any one dat dose custom sandblasting, good luck n keep post up dose pics
You can get plexi at any home store, lowes, home depot, something like that.
as far as sandblasting/etching . I should be able to find a good sign shop to do it pretty cheap, its a small piece. i just have to print the logo and get a negative made so they can blast it.
the finished product should look something like
only the grey area will actually be polished diamond plate aluminum
