Polyurethanes are resin safe, it will not eat this type of foam. Styrofoam (expanded polystyrene) will be destroyed by fiberglass resins. Many fiberglass shops use styrofoam to make plugs, the secret is to paint the styrofoam thoughly with latex house paint, thereby keeping the resin from reaching the foam.
can i Paint styrofoam with latex house paint then bondo over that to smooth the surface?
yes... as long as you don't tear the paint layer. and remember styrofoam is VERY soft compared to bondo, so unless you've got a super delicate touch, expect cracking.
