You can see it doesn't fit perfectly against the dash. This will be taken care of in the final, particle board version via some fine sanding (Thank god I finnaly bought a Dremel!)
I have begin the enclosure fab for me CanyPuter (Canyon Computer).
I made a carboard cut out and thransfered the shape to plywood. The plywood is temporary fo give me an idea of shape and space constraints. I'll move it to particle board or something easier to finely shape.
I like the particle board idea because it's heavy and this is held in place (for now) by gravity. You can see the where the screen is going. I'll mount the DVD drive just above it along with some USB/IEEE/ports/flash reader. The screen (and DVD and ports) will be set down about an inch. This will let me build a "plug" to fit over them to hide the appearance of a computer and protect it when not in use. I may build cup-holders into the plug.
I had my sceen in a similar position and I was getting a fair amount of glare, making it difficult to read in anything but ideal situations. I hope you've driven around some and actually checked the glare. Would hate for you to do all that work to realize it needs to go somewhere else.
Also.. change your sig. Looks like you have a screen now.

what i would do is put your HU where your screen is and put your screen where the HU is... nice box BTW
Carputer: 2.8Ghz P4, 512 RAM, 120gb HDD, WIFI, TV tuner, CDRW/DVDROM, Slot load DVD in front.
Screen: Lilliput 7" touchscreen (Custom made Carbon Fiber Screen Enclosure)
Well after driving around with is ghetto rig for the day, it seems to be in a decent spot. I don't intend to to spend much time looking at it. GPS should talk to me, and I intend to start a playlist. WTF i'm not justifying me taking my eyes off the road.
Sun glare is negligable, I increased the screen angle a tiny bit and it made huge difference. I'd like the screen to be angleable to a degree for passenger comfort.
Long-term (once I have USB radio and and an XM solution) plans will have it replacing the head unit (it's a PERFECT fit)
that looks nice man! if the position works for you then go for it
Hey EB, I noticed your from mass. I'm from NH I've never actually seen anyone from the New England Area on this forum, but its nice to see someone near my area doing car pc's.
I also love your truck, in fact I was about to buy one! I got a great deal on an 04' ex cab tacoma though and opted to go for a truck with a tested motor. (I'm not sure how those i4/i5 motors will run because thier so new.) But the Canyon I test drove (i5) was so sweet.
Anyhow, I'm also designing the interior of my truck to have an LCD. I'm actually taking my stock radio out and hoping to run all the entertainment systems directly from the pc.
If you have questions, comments or anything please keep in touch, again its nice to have someone close in our area !!!
