Project CompuMach: Lilliput install started (lots of pics)
Hey guys, I started moulding my lilliput screen into my dash the past few days, just want to see what you think so far. Suggestions and tips would be great.
I didn't want to modify the existing radio bezel so I bought a used one off ebay. The colour is not the same but I'm going to get it painted to match my interior.
This is the car its going in, its a 2004 Ford Mustang Mach 1:
This is the interior now as it is:
This is the bezel bought off ebay:
Originally I was trying not to cut the trim on the bezel so I notched out the back of the lilliput screen:
But then I realized that was great and all but I wouldn't be able to reinstall the screen :P So I ended up cutting it out with a cutoff wheel. I must have went through about 20 discs :S
I lined up the lilliput case with a few pieces of cardboard on each side to get it perfectly centred then used a glue gun to stick the case to the top of the bezel so it wouldn't move while bondoing. Behind the screen there are two wood stoppers holding the screen up:
Here's the first layer of bondoglass to keep the screen in place:
Stupid me forgot gloves so I decided to use my hands. Bondoglass is a ***** to get off :P
After it dried i sanded it down a bit:
There are a lot of grooves and crap still. Should I use the bondoglass again or should I switch over to the regular bondo?
