will do.
now if i dont decide to cut and want to just hide the buttons.
Is there anyway of mounting the buttons on teh monitor elsewhere or not even needing them?
Yea I think I know exactly what you mean about the "lip" that curves in. I haven't test fit it all together yet but had already thought of 2 possible fixes as it does seem as though spacing will be tight. I may be able to trim 1/4" or whatever off the wood piece but still have that cut hidden by the black stereo trim piece when back together. Otherwise I may have to cut the case of the xenarc case, or some combination of both althougth I think that's unlikely it would need both. I do like your idea and the possibility of having the wood grain like that. Keep us posted on your ideas/progress.

Well I think you might need access to the buttons at some time, maybe to dim it down at night. I've thought about putting them in the ash tray or glove box.
can u point me to a post where someone has done this mod to seperate the buttons from teh screen. thanks for all the help
I found some threads with talk about soldering wires to the xenarc borard and extending the buttons elsewhere but none of the posts went into any real detail nor had pictures. I sure its pretty straight forward to do, I guess its a matter of how well you solder.
I know it this is old post but I was wondering how far along have you gotten in your car. I have the same model / make of yours I am trying to get a PC / monitor inside my ride also.
If you are stumbed on what to do let me know....
I got a few ideas..

Not far for how much time has passed. I stuck with the plan I came up with earlier in this thread. I haven't had time to work on it recently but you can see some pics of it here and here.
What kind of ideas have you got? I may have to start making time to get mine up and going. I'm sure I've got enough junk laying around to put something together.
Slaughterhouse hasn't logged in for a couple months. I'm curious what he ended up doing...
Oh, and welcome to the boards newbie.![]()
Sorry about the late reply I got some many projects going on I need to slow down.
Okay my idea are a little rough but I think that they will work. Starting with the PC.. I was just going to put a small factor form like a Shuttle XPC SS51G 2ghz Celeron CPU, with a 512mb, a 5.1 sound card, a 64mb video card with a rca video out, and round it out with a 250 gig hard drive…Yes I know some things are over kill but I am just building this like a regular computer just for S&G’s
I have been debating on three different head units.. one is a Kenwood DVD 7015
http://img446.imageshack.us/my.php?i...10101147ub.jpg this picture is one fitted in a STS.
The second one is the Pioneer AVIC-D1 In-Dash DVD Multimedia AV Navigation Receiver http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pi...118AVIC-D1.jpg I was told that this one you can disable the e-brake function so the video will play while the car is in motion.
And the three route is to just put a screen in the dash and placing a Alpine receiver and changer in the glove box http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...988_6_full.jpg this picture was taken from a 2001 DTS.
But before all that I plan on pulling out all that Bose crap in car and replace it all with JL Audio. I am thinking of adding a center channel but I have to figure out if I can actually cut some of the dash to do that.
Just a few ideas let me know what you think.. or at least how far are you going to vest into your car.

This is my STS with my first hacked install then my second 8" touchscreen. I ended up moving my Kenwood headunit into the armrest, and putting the EPIA board behind and below the screen in the centre console. I routed an IDE cable to the glove compartment where I have a removable hard drive case with a laptop drive inside.
I also upgraded to a 2004 steering wheel and connected the controls to a wireless gamepad so I can use the steeringwheel buttons to control the carputer.
Here is me creating the bezel for the touchscreen. Fits perfectly.
