Is it necessary to glaze over the inside the wooden frame before painting it? It seems like that would be hard to do. It would be tough to sand and get clean edges on the inside corner.

Do you leave the back on the Lilli or remove it for ventilation?

When you bond the Lilli into the frame, I assume you do it from the back. If the back cover is on the Lilli when you bond it, then how do you paint the Lilli after its in place given you can't disassemble the Lilli?

This operation requires you disassamble the screen, you can't really do it this way, otherwise.
It's up to you if you want to put the back of the screen on...depds on how much ventilation you have back in your dash. I for one, didn't put it on.
Looks carefully at the pics. You'll now the steps involved.

You can disassemble the Lilli. Just remove everything from the back of the front bezel but do not mess with the LCD ribbons.

The bare woodgrain does need to be sealed either with a layer of filler or with a good, slow hobby epoxy so the woodgrain doesn't come back through the paint (Learned this the hard way).

When you bond the front bezel of the Lilli in place how do you go about bonding it? In other words, where do you place the glue? If you put glue on the back outer edges of the bezel you would never be able to put the back cover on again, correct? I'm assuming that may be why most people leave the rear cover off.

I put mine on the sides, and a little more on the back. The back can fit with the glue on. It won't look good, but then again, it doesn't have to.

hey guys, i'm looking at trying this out myself over the weekend, but I'm having a hellofatime finding Evercoat Metal Glaze. Are there any substitutes I can look for that you might recommend, or some place I should be trying to find this stuff? I've tried a few auto parts stores, ACE hardware, OSH all to no avail.

Also, when I am looking at paints, do I need anything specialty? (I continue to look for PlastiKote, but so far no luck) I assume that since I'll mostly be painting on the bondo/evercoat at the end that most any automotive paint will work ok. Am I mistaken?

Thanks so much for a great write up on this project, Altimat. I'm very excited!

You'll probably have to go to a place that sells automotive paint and supplies to get Evercoat.

Your best bet it to get your paint products wherever you found the Evercoat. The commercial paints like SEM are way better than the consumer paints at auo parts, hardware, and home stores.
