Hey Andy, if you say you have so much trouble with the thieves, first get everything inssured, and second, if ou have enough space in the dash, it would be a nice ideea to hide the screen with a cover. You know, like the ones you push and they open... You know, like in a Scion or Skyline.

or you could go the other route and use one of the indash mounts. im planing on doing that. only im going to recess it. i have an old crap kenwood head unit i dont use anymore. so im going to detach the face plate. you know the socket that it sits in? im going to hack that off and attach it to the front of the indash. pull the screen out, the socket comes with it. put it back in, and it looks like a head unit with no control panel

Sygad - sounds like you have really gone to town on your car! I am very different to you - i like my aircon. Thanks for the info on the cabling though - that will be very useful.

Cris - thankfully i have not had any trouble - yet (although i have caught a few people eyeing it up). There is alwasy broken glass around the streets and the odd car on bricks. Definitely gonna have some sort of cover and as you can see i have a muther of all wheel locks - some girl asked what that was yesterday! (she is very cute though so i didnt take the ****). tinted windows will help stop the window getting broken easily and i have a keypad so even if most people get the keys - as is most common in bristol - they still can't pinch it (unless they are a little bit clever in which case thay aint gonna go after my P reg car), add onto that my very recessed antitheft wheel bolts and leaving nothing on display i can only keep my fingers crossed. Somone broke into my mates C-class to take heroin and have a kip a few months ago and didnt even touch the skis that were inside. A slide up cover would be pretty dope but i think space is already at a premium. I like mp3oplecarriers hidden behind the vents idea maye i will make a cover that clips onto the vents, looks like a bit of extra vent and a face-off stereo witht he face removed (of course).

draxin - jsut reccess it a lot and have some wires hanging out - look like someone has already ripped the stereo out!!!! It hink we should have a separte thread "how to disguise your screen" Don't want to go the fold out screen route - dunno why - i have been considering it but i would want it to be motorised for posing power! i would love a slide up screen too but it would be too far away.

Maybe i should just build a mortorised one and have it hooked up to the central locking (disabled when the ign is on for when i am in the car). I have a flaming aero eng degree so i should be able to knock one up! hmmmmmm might be neater......

I think the digitalww manual fold-out screen would be perfect...you'd just replace the head unit & leave everything else stock (except for the amp). When folded away it just looks like something in a cubby hole. You could even fabricate a cover for the folded away screen using the faceplate of the old stereo.

yeah but its manual! i want 'pimp factor' here! am working on a motorised screen holder!!! This would be better for me cos i find it hard to reach the dash anyway cos i sit a long way back - getting far away from that airbag cover!!! I don't trust those things! I always wondered where the centre of sterring wheels ends up!

well maybe i am exagerating about the bricks - i have seen 2 cars (1 a very nice golf) on bricks in 5 years but there is always glass. There is at least 3 patches in the 100m stretch of my road to my house at the moment. Bristol has a big problem with oportunist theft from cars but then again so do most places. Bristol is a great place (why i am here for another 3 years) but the council and the criminals do seem to have a war on cars and then you have some drivers who park on a junction - i am not kidding - i have never seen it anywhere else but people will park ont he corner of a bend - with their car kind of over the apex. And then there is the students who seem to like kicking off wing mirrors. God i wish i was back in the country sometimes! At least all you have to contend with is animals, drunk drivers, people walking down pitch black lanes wearing black and mud on the road - all good fun!!!!!

EDIT: about the brick stat - i have never been to St Pauls and i bet i could find a few there right now!!!! Oh and I have had fun dodging the odd joy rider. That Honda video were the Mexicans sit down and watch the car driving round town is soooo true.

Maybe next time you could take a pic...
It must be hard to change your car. I guess you have to write on it: "I used to own a... and now I got this one. So it's mine, you know."
