Hi guys and gals, need to pick your brains.
I am looking for some slim car vents or something i could use instead of car vents. the reason is i want to replace my existing large dash vents (see pic) with some smaller ones to help make room for the screen (every inch helps). The exisitng vents are about 4 inch wide at the bottom and 3 inch tall with the left one being much narrower at the top and i would like to be able to angle them (not bothered baout closing em as i dotn think have ever closed a vent in my life - just use the air route dial).

Cheers Andy, the trick is to get some vents, mod them, and then fit the duct in them. Anyway, a bit of a extreme solution.. You should be fine without them. Redirect the heat towards the front window... In my car I don't use the vents at all, all the air circules from the front window. Anyway, post a pic with a wider angle, maybe we can work something out...

I was thinking about getting some vents and trying to hack them down but i might just replace them with slits so i get a bit of air. I do tend to use the widscreen/footwell mix more these days but for some reason just cannot remoe the middle vents all together - it just seems wrong. I have been tempted but not gonna do it! I think maybe some slits with small vanes might do the trick and set them (with trial and error) to point at the right attitiude to get occupants faces.
Answering my own thread a bit but just came across Leventechnology.co.uk who make some dash vents which are no good but they do have some very nice alloy window switches which may come in useful for someone as volume/track dash buttons - not cheap though. Will have to pop over to the locost build forum and ask if anyone over there knows some suppliers.
Cris, will get a better pic up tomorrow. Have the centre dash part coming off a ebay this week (yaaaaaay!!!!) so will see if the guy has the vents too.
Hey, Andy, just got an ideea. I was phoshopping your pic, when I got a great ideea. You know that a litlle older BMW's have the vents on the dash facing up, not like yours facing the driver. How about that? Could it work?
you mean out the top of the dash??? I thought of that but really dont want to cut the dash surround as i will probably end up givig this car to my sister (like my last one) in a year or so.Mind you a few holes aint gonna make any difference to her - the last car i gave her got drawn on with a stone over every single body panel after 2 weeks! And i had looked after that car so well while i was at uni. Got any pics of the Bimmer idea?

you could fiberglass some thin vents. from the look of that pic, the vents are their own panel so you could take it off and mod it pretty easy.

Yeah the panel is separate but quite deep. I might make some slit type vents at the top - possibly with a gimbal action or moving vanes. Might even pull the dash forward due to the complexities of the dash behind the fascia and I sit quite far back and cant actually reach the radio very easily!!
Cris, where in the UK are you?
There should be enough room for the LCD and the Vents u might have to take the buttons off the LCD but thats ok u can use the Remote or move them to somewere else?
