    Peugeot 306 7.5in Widescreen install

I originally had my Monitor, a 7.5" centurion widescreen mounted on top of the dash but i couldn't stand it there. I had a bit or fibreglassing experience so i wanted to make my own dash install. The original dash looks like this.. so you can see my problem.

I had to rip out the top vents and the din-slot to get the dash anywhere near capable of holding the screen.

After i'd done this i cut the shape out of some ply-wood and began fibreglassing the wood. I put about 3 layers of matt on just so it wouldnt snap when i prised it off, and it didn't. I cut the general shape and sanded the edges etc and cut a hole (square) in the middle for the screen.

Then i measured some cardboard out for the back of the screen and made a box for the screen to sit in (sorry if this doesn't make sense it's hard to explain!) i fibreglassed the box to the back of the shape (behind the square) i had created for the dash and tested for a fit.

The rest was filling, sanding and painting.

I've noticed there are a few people with 306s on this forum, i'd really like to know how you did your screen

Yeh, I got my 306 fascia half off tonight and realised that the heater controls arn't attached to it at all I think i'm going to have to go the same way as you have.... what have you done with the heater outlets? did you move them someplace, or are they happily keeping the back of the lcd hot?

I'm going down to a breakers to look at complete fascias, it seems that the xlt or glx (can't remember off the top of my head) version has a 2 din size hole... but i'm not sure if you can switch them out easily :/

Why the demise of the temp and clock controls?

It's looking good, how do you find the angle of the screen in use?

Getting my screen on weds... can't wait to furtle!

    Nice job though, well done.

Caitlin -- I didn't originly have temp and a clock, the pic above is from google.

everything's the same minus the heating vents and the DIN.

The angle is great! it doesn't reflect nasty light and glare in the day.

Good luck with your project, let me know how it goes!

jcdillin - i *knew* someone would say that haha

    ....

..had to do the old time travelling crap to fix the *before* of course

Where's the head unit now though? or is it going straight to amps?

If you want to keep the headunit, I mounted the screen down where the ashtray is, not ideal, but I've taken it all out as I'm getting a Golf Mark V, probably going to be even harder to get everything in.....

alanp - Am interested as to what exactly did you do with the heating vents? Did you vow never to use the heater again incase it superheats the screen!!

    Nice Caitlin

Na I dont use a headunit anymore. I was going to but i soldered it and.. well.. err u can guess the rest

I fibreglassed up the heating duct so all heat coming from the engine is diverted to the two side vents or the windscreen or whatever. It's better because i can melt windscreen ice quicker as more air is directed to the windscreen. it's just like having the two old center vents off.

Mounting it below the ashtray sounds like a gd idea. Got any pics? What's the angle like to view?

    Hey guys,

In the process of fitting my 7" TFT in my Pug 306. Goign the same route - ripping the vents and headunit out but will be using the existing fascia unit as want to integrate the screen into the dash itself. Will post pics once done - went to the scrapyards the other day to rip a dash apart on a Pug 306 so I knew exactly what I was doing before I messed with mine!!!

Yeah definitly tight! are you sure there's room for all of that! i looked at moving the heating controls down a bit but i think there's only 1 other thread that discusses this and it's not even peugeot specific, let alone 306 specific!

I would have liked to keep my headunit too but to be honest, i just wanted it all in quickly and the epia soundcard does the job.

Nice to see another 306 owner with plans for an install
