Protective case for 20x4 LCD screen

    Hi,

I've bought a 20x4 character LCD screen for my (fairly basic) carputer, which will basically just be used for displaying MP3 song titles. I don't want to mount the thing in the dash permanently, but I do want to encase the screen in a small box so that the innards aren't exposed. It measures about 10x6x1cm (without the cable soldered to it, which will add a bit). Does anyone have any ideas about doing this, preferably cheaply and simply? It doesn't have to look amazing - I'm going for the 'functional' look . I read the sticky "HOWTO: Building a removable LCD screen bezel and mount" thread in this forum, but it looks way more advanced than I need, and quite daunting!

    cheers

would this by any chance happen to be one of those seiko LCD's? If so, here are some links I've gathered for them on the net.....

I believe in the 2nd link they attached the LCD to a plexiglass stand, but none show how to make an enclosure for it. I'm sorta pondering the same thing, I mite do a lil fiberglassin and bondo....hope it helps.

Thanks! The third link looked pretty useful actually; it really spells out in painstaking details the whole LCD screen connection process, which is extremely useful for an electronics novice like me. I may well just try to hack something together from stuff lying around the house (a cut-up CD case maybe). hmmm.. this could be interesting.

I think Maplins (UK) sell some electronic hobby boxes and **** in ABS (or at least used to, when I was tinkering with flashing lights as a teenager). Maybe one of those could do...?
As for mounting it, you could try get hold of an old ppc cradle with a suction and use that, or some sort of generic vent mount on the dash. Shouldn't look half bad

Excellent, that's really helpful cheers. There's a few other things I need to pick up from Maplins anyway so I'll have to wander over there sometime.

Nice pic by the way - are they yours?
