Thread: Project: Toyota Matrix indash LCD begin (56K beware).

I bought a use radio bezel from another matrix owner for 20 buck with some scratch. That doesn't matter cuz I will sand and bondo over it.


This is the back of the bezel. There are some switches (AC, Hazard, Recir, ..) attached to those holes.


Lilliput case I bought from Armen a while a go for 15 bucks. The Lilliput is a little taller than the double DIN opening of the bezel but narrower.


This saw did the job of cutting the bottom part of the bezel out.


Wet sand the silver paint out.


Now I need to glue the 2 togethers. The bezel is made of ABS plastic. What type of adhensive should I use? I know I have to do some searching and reading on this forum to see what you guys use to glue the 2 together.
I currently have Bondo and Bondo Glass, Can I use it that or it will crack on me? This set up have to be perfect that is why I ask. I saw others using the more flexible stuff for bumber repair. I may look into that material.

Where did you get that clip for the lilliput? I need something EXACTLY like that for my Xenarc install.

Can you give me more details about the hinge, the hardware, is it sturdy enough to survive bumps in the road, etc. Thanks!

You can get all from HomeDepot. The hinge is a 3" or 2.5" door hinge. The "clip" is a piece of metal (wood join???) from HomeDepot and I just bent it to the curve of the Lilliput. Velco to the top of the radio. I have no problem goign over speed bumps and pothole.

What type of plastic is this Lilliput case? I can't find any stamp/reading on the case.

bond the Lilliput case and my bezel (PC+ABS) plastic together??

I think that stuff will bond an elephant to an airborne 747 (even an elephant laminated with ABS). You should be okay.

Well, I did a little bit of work yesterday.... Sand the bezel and the Lilliput case a little bit and glue/epoxy them together. The bezel is a little wider than the Lilliput case so I have to use some balsa wood to fill the gap.
Back with epxy fill in

Waiting for the thing to cure. Any comment and suggestion is welcome.
BTW, I will be using SEM: Bumper Repair #68422

to fill and sand instead of bondo/bondo glass. Maybe bondoglass in the back to add some strength.

Test fit: Now you guys can see where my Earthmate GPS is. That little yellow thing deep inside the dash.


SEM bumper repair apply and wait for sanding.

for future reference check out duramix, they make a range of ABS plastic fillers and putties, its a bit more expensive that the epoxy's but it sticks to anything, sands really whell and looks amazing, its like liquid plastic and it sets in 15 minutes.
