Hi i've been modding my car for years but want to start fabricating my own parts for my dash, so i can fit a 7" TV in it and have it flush with my stereo etc. Was watching "Rides" the other day and WCC were using something to make parts for the dash refered to as Kitty Hair. It looked like fibreglass, was just wondering what it was and what would be the best thing to use to mod the dash but to make it look like it was always meant to be there thanks
It's fiberglass strands mixed with resin already. All you have to do is add hardener. It's a serious PITA to work with; it'd be a lot easier to use fiberglass matting if you're working on anything big. Kitty Hair (which is the name for Evercoat's product) is good for filling holes and such; it'd be tough to fab an entire part out of it. It's very easy to end up with air pockets in the mixture.
You would use Kitty Hair to build up deep areas, as it won't crack like bondo. The trick is to shape it with a coarse rasp before it hardens.
Personally, I find it much easier to use than fiberglass.
any area with a hairline, such as if you wish to remove the gap between an aftermarket mounting bracket and a stock panel. vibrations will cause fracture of non fiber reinforced bondo.
you can also use short strand fiber reinforced body filler. I dont believe its warp free like kitty hair, though. should certainly prevent cracking.
I also have used Kitty Hair many times before on my boat, and this stuff is awesome. I love using it, it is very easy for me to use and it is not to expensive and it does go along ways.
I will be planning to use it to make some sort of housing for my Lilli just not sure what yet.
