    Fabricating dash and filling 'holes'

    Hey guys,

I'm based in the UK, I about to embark on the scary task of fabricating my screen into the dash, I've decided on where the screen is going and I've cut away the area for the screen to fit, my questions are:

What is the best thing to use in the UK to fill in the holes etc and give the fascia some strength back?? There is quite a bit of area to fill due to the shape of the dash.

Will any spraypaints such as plastikote etc damage the fascia.

    Cheers

Use car body filler that has added glass fibre for strength for any big filling jobs and then use the easy sanding stuff on the top layer.

are you gonna make some small vents at the top and connect them to the duct?

You can really recess you screen putting it where you are as the depth to the dash cross member tthe vents bolt to is 50mm bakc but you can alwasy take it out and go back more (can be easily spliced back in if you sell the car)

Can't wait to see what you do with it. Get my screen this week but have to put it together and get it working 1st. Maybe we can pursaude Caitlin to mould her screen in - she's letting the side down! All the 306's ont he site would have cool moulded installs then.

I'm going to block the duct up, will just use the vents either side, I am working on 2nd hand dash parts so if I sell the car that lot can go back in or alternatively I'll sell it with it in (chances are I'll sell to my brother in a few years).

Are you fabbing your screen in???

I'm mounting the screen casing upside down so it fits perfectly and putting the buttons as the top (or bottom) of the screen.

The reason I asked about recessing was to do with visibility mainly.

I say get that screen as far abck as possible - just make sure you can see the right edge ok but the dash is slightly angled so you should be fine. I am going abck at least 50mm and i am just using a Xenarc panel so will be about 40mm back from the dash at the top. I am gonna try and keep the vents though and am hacking up a spare aircon controller which is gonna be fun. I am also trying to fit a HU face ont here too and DVD slot so you can imagine how tight it is gonna be. Might keep the HU flip down and put the DVD behind to save room - 1st job is get the screen working.

    Hey guys,

Heres a pic of the fab so far ..... gonna sand it down tomorrow and then cover it in P40 to hopefully get it as original looking as possible. What do you think of it so far??? Its been hard going!!!!

Looks a mess at the moment but hoping it will look better once its been covered in fine P40, sanded etc then painted.

Looking good but lots of sanding to do. Make sure you put fibreglass or summit over that wood to seal it as it will soak up the paint and may also release sap which might wreck your paint job.

Why did you fillt he two little button holes? No aircon or recirculate?

Its all going to be sanded down then covered with P40 to give a smooth all over finish, then will prime it and paint once happy.

I've got a sunroof on the Pug instead of Aircon, so no need to have those showing - this was a dash piece of another Pug.
