    What should I use?

I have a small opening, that I need to make only slightly bigger. I want to fit a police scanner into my ash tray opening. The scanner is only slighlty larger than the existing hole, but when I'm finished with it, I want it to look as stock as possible.

I was thinking I would start playing with fiberglass or bondo or whatever else I might use, but I have never done it before, so I really don't know what to use.

It's a small hole, I don't really think I need to redo the entire bezel for this project. All I really want to do is have the bezel come to a corner around the scanner, and have a slight border following back behind the edge.

Is this something as simple as bondo? Or would I need to use fiberglass and all that related stuff? I just really need a starting point, I can find the related informaion from there.

There not illegal in PA, either base station, or mobile, so I don't have to worry about that. And If I get into a state that doesn't permit them, oh well.

    Here's a picture.

I needed to do something very similar to mount my TFT in a my double din slot.

This also involved just extending the existing opening downwards slightly into the ashtray area. the dashboard material also looks very similar to yours.

I used a flexible bumper filler and black bumper paint to ensure a good bond to the the PET plastic. This also allowed the finished panel to flex during installation without cracking.

Details are in my project log section 2.

    No.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

You know, I really don't know. Its plastic, thats about all I could tell you. I don't know if its PET or ABS, or what. But it is all plastic. There isn't anything on top of it, or anything behind it really.

As for the size difference, it is only about 1/2" on either side, or about an 1" total.

I finally got some more photos of the bezel. Turns out its easier to take pictures with the bezel out of the car. I was hoping to keep the outlet where it is and work around it. But I'm also thinking about getting rid of it, and putting some switches where it is now.

The shiny stuff around the cig. lighter is metal. The entire rest of the bezel is plastic.
