hmm, What if we all did a preorder and then you could go to a diferent shop and have them make them?

Mnost companies are like that, i was making a gocart once and took it to a welding shop and was going to pay full price, but then he gave me a discount but also took him 2 months to do 10 welds, then he said he could get it powder coated for free and guess what that never happened. The worst part is some of the welds where crappy and broke...

But i bet if we can all come up with the cash they can make the order quick.
I would be willing to pay up front.

Wow... These machine shops your dealing with sound aweful!!

But things would be alot easier on you negotiating with a machine shop if
you had actual drawings and knew what you wanted. The "design" and "drawing" part
of machine shops is not the way to go. They will rob you every time.

I offered way back in the day to completely 3D model and give you detail drawings
that would allow you to walk into any shop and get an exact price and time
frame and allow them to just "machine".

And still, looking at your part, I could possibly mill that if it's not too wide.
(but that's jumping too far ahead right now)

Also, approaching machine shops with no cash is a hard sell... If you want to
produce these faceplates, you need to just pony up some cash yourself or
make a contract to get ~$50 from each interested party as an investment with
no guarantees that they will receive anything in return unless it pans out.
Then you can walk in a shop, say I got a $Grand to get this kicked off for the first
prototype pieces and you'll see some actual work get done.

    That's this Engineer's $.02 .....

Yeah... I'm learning that. The $1800 engineering time quote I received first go-around should have told me something... but I'm a slow learner.

I know... back before the machine shop told me the second of a string of lies...

I'll fetch the drawings tomorrow and let you know, but off the top of my head it's 7" x 6" roughly.

They have my cash, just not enough zeroes behind the 1, I guess.

That would only be an option if:

    A) I could sell the faceplates for $300 each (I have the cash to cover the project, but have to recoup my investment)
    or
    B) Find about fifty customers to prepay as investors who realize they're taking the chance they'll never see that $50 again...

I have already paid them... in fact, I left my credit card info and requested that they not go over $1000 without first contacting me. They haven't burned that up yet... then again, I have absolutely nothing to show for the money I HAVE spent...

Whoa.. you're one trusting dude!!! Funny they didn't charge u $1000 immediately
and quickly make you something. It shouldn't cost that much for a prototype
    of what you want.

Oh well.. baby steps... if u wanna send me some dimensions I can draw it up..
Or the actual part would be the easiest way for me model it properly....

Yeah.... I have this nasty habit of doing what I say I'm going to do and I tend to expect the same from others so I do extend a lot of trust. It didn't burn me this time, but it has in the past.

I sense they're afraid of failing so they don't want to take the risk on this project. I'm as confused as you. Except that I do believe they're more interested in EASY money. This required a good bit of mental energy I did not gather they possessed.

I'll work on this... If I can open up a large enough window of time to retrieve (or internet order) the acrylic and make a faceplate, then I can give it to a local hobbyist to build it for me. If I don't foresee being able to free up that time, I'll get you all the drawings. I can't send the faceplate in the car - it's a daily driver for the Mrs and she's not allowed to drive my primary car and I don't feel good about having her drive my secondary because it's such a POS! I bought it for $100 if that tells you anything.

HOLY F'ING HELL!!! So I go to get the drawings and the place is locked down like a drum!!! And there's a hand-written sign on the front door's window that says, "Gone to see War of the Worlds Back at 2:00 PM". Is it any f'ing wonder why I can't get my project completed?!?!?

Maybe they knew that's what I went there to do. LOL!!!

I love Sci-Fi more than most... but the only reason to miss work was May 19th! And even then, I couldn't condone shutting the whole operation down!!!
