Thread: Plans to offer a VW MK IV LCD faceplate - everyone please read.

So I've been staring at this thread for a while, considering if that is going to be a way to go for my future setup, and I got one question. With the fixed position of the monitor in dash, do you have any trouble using/seeing it? One of the reasons I was considering a motorized in-dash option (yeah, i am an optimist) was that the monitor would be closer to my eye level, although it would still render cupholders useless. So I just want to know the usability experience

I do not have any trouble seeing Frodoplayer clearly. The tiny font of Street Atlas 2005 is a little more difficult, but the lesson there is DON'T buy SA '05. Because unless you're mounting the monitor in the visor, SA '05 is going to be a little difficult to read.

With my current faceplate, I get a glare from the seats and center console that can make the screen impossible to see in mid-day sun. (Window tint makes a world of difference!!!) If you have a screen mounted outside your dash, you will also get glare washing out the screen. To address the problem in my install, I'm following the recommendation of one of the posts higher up in the thread and having the faceplate milled in such a fashion that the screen will be angled upwards slightly.

Bah! my '03 TDI has cupholders down by the emergency brake! I really hated the in dash ones. The one in my old 99.5 MkIV Jetta was terrible.

Speaking of which, I wa wondering if anyone knows of where to get the center console with those cupholders by the emergency break. From my search I know it exists, but cannot find anyone selling them.

Since my car came with it, I'd say you can get it at the dealer... or 1stvwparts.com...

Althought, I tried to order this last week and the dealer wouldn't sell it to me...he said he had too many customers buy this, spill their drink and come in screaming at him. So I didn't get it...is this guy full of it or what?

I'd say he is full of it. I looked at this cupholder before, but don't find it too convinient, the one I was looking at was located by the e-break.
