WTF? I guess I'm a bit more observative :lol: This will be sweet. I've been reading about fiberglassing, but I've never thought to make something for amps. I'll enjoy reading this! I'm curious what the styrofoam is gonna be for? I assume he will use it to carve a shape to glass around? I've heard of that but thought people used a finer foam, like the kind of stuff you can get at hobby lobby.
sorry no updates, they cut back at Sams so i THOUGHT i would have time but i had some side jobs pop up and well.... they pay :D. I'm off on Thursday so expect an update that night or Friday.

yes, the way the JL slash series amps mount there are no mounting tabs on the side of the amp so i will trace the pattern of the side of the amp on the foam and cut it out to use as a mold. I would normally use the pink or blue foam you can get at home depot or lows but styrofoam is free. If time allows i will make a small demo on how to make a fiberglass amp rack for amps with the mounting lip, where the lip will not show.
where did you find 1/8" MDF? the smallest I've found is 1/2".
home depot, they had it standing in a little metal devider with chipbord and other small sheets of stuff. I have also used it for mounting rings for kick's and rear decks as its over kill for midranges.
You sure it's not fiberboard or hardboard?
Medium Density Fibreboard at least im 90% shure.
I have just ordered my CF and vacume forming crap, so i will go over that at the end of all this. :rock: so this should get interesting in the end. I decided to go with a more unconvintional 4x4 twill "tighter weave" carbon so it should be nice..... I hope.
For now its off to bed so i can get up and start on this.
I'm not saying your wrong or anything, i'm just really curious. I use MDF a lot and I'm stuck with 1/2 and 3/4". So if they came out with something new I sure would be interested in it. Thats why I'm asking.Quote:

well... I under estimated how much epoxy fleece will absorb. the I spent all day an amprack that the fiber glass falls off of :( I can post pics of the failed atempt if you want to see them. If the wether is nice sunday I'll try again, if not then next thursday.

Shor nuff! Thas 1/4" MDF. I'll have to look for that! I know it'll come in handy. Home Depot and Lowe's are the only place i can get 1/2". All the lumber yards carry 3/4"
