You may be able to move the AC controls to somewhere else in the car, it shouldn't be that difficult to do so.

Another Taurus owner. I've got a 2000 SE. To start off, the link above for the adapter isn't recommended. The Metra adapter has had a lot of complaints. The one that I have (from BestBuy) is recommended. It's the Schoche mentioned above. You may be able to fit a 7" widescreen into the adapter thereby allowing you to keep your AC controls. You may also considering purchasing the outer portion of the dash (the dray gray section around the stereo/AC) along with the adapter. Modify both peices to accomodate your choice of screen and by moving the AC controls further down. You may loose your cigerette lighter and the storage compartment.

    Just my two cents.

Looks like there's a cubby hole under the AC controls in that picture. I may be wrong cause I don't own a taurus, but it there is some room below, just mount an in dash down there

well i thought id take a couple pics of the radio / ac mixup in my taurus so you guys can get a better picture of what there is to work with once you remove the radio there is a lot of room for an lcd screen im thinking about cutting out the ac controls and glassing them in the cubby hole just under the radio this is an 01 taurus and i guarantee that it is identical to the 05
anyways im not trying to takeover this thread just sharing my project and adding some more into this subject

the plug you see to the very left is where the connector with the vacuum tubes go in to the lenght of the tubes on the connector are very short however so i dont know what kind of relocation problems this would bring about ,, anyone else think a 10" screen would look nice in that spot?

To all you Gen4 Taurus owners (2000+):
(if your system is going in the trunk)

In the trunk on the left hand side near the RCU and antenna is a gray or black connector. I believe this would connect to a factory CD changer. There are three wires attached to the connector:
    Code:
    Red/Yellow - Constant 12V+
    Purple/Black - ACC 12V+
    Red/Gray - ???
When used properly, the Purple/Black wire can be used as a remote turn-on wire for amps or your cap PC.

Extra tip: On the right hand side behind the trunk light is the connecter for the light.
    Code:
    Green - Positive
    Black/Red - Negative
This is helpful if you are interested in adding some lights to your trunk. Wire some neons are shown above and they will turn on and off when opening and closing the trunk.

Also, visit this website: Taurus Car Club of America. Espically check out the forum. Lots of knowledgeable people there and even more knowledge to be learned. My name there is also d_sellers1. See ya there.

There's not enough room there. The cubby hole only measures approximately 5" x 1". That's a guess because is currently 6,000 miles away (I'm in Iraq at the moment).

A ten inch screen won't really fit in that space. Even with a bare LCD, the electronic component edges would entend too far requiring fabriaction into the tan areas of the dash. Would not be much fun.

I just finished fitting my PC in my 2001 Taurus SES glove compartment box, but I am not sure what to do yet with my screen either. I think I am just going to use the huge cupholder (bench seat model) and mount it on there for now. I think I want to move my AC buttons (or make them smaller), then use the Scosche kit as the framework to integrate my screen into the dash. But this won't happen until I can figure out what to do with the radio, as I don't want to invest in a new radio.

thats what i am planing on doing d_sellers , to go beyond the hole in place for the radio and modify the bezel itself making a spot big enough for a recessed screen and glassing in the ac controls at the very bottom of the bezel i will actualy cut out the whole cubby area and do away with it
