Go to the "work in progress" section of the "show off your project" and look for the "clean GTI" thread. The guy there is using a stamp to control a servo - he is nice and friendly so i am sure he will be more than happy to help.

See you are planning on using the moving back in after rotating to give more room idea....that'll be £1000 please

If I understand you correctly, it's possible to do that mechanically. Just have the servo rotate past the toggle position to bring the slider back; meanwhile a second linkage can rotate the screen up/down. I say this because I have very little experience with microcontrollers, and the mechanical design wouldn't be that difficult to implement.

Do you have a good way to make the LCD housing the right size? Or did you manage to find one that's already the right size? I tried doing some welding to make a housing, and I failed miserably because aluminum is very hard to weld and I'd never done it before.

    well it moves!!!

just added the drive motor and piggy backed the servo motors. just used one servo controler and the other will be used on the drive motor. will build the 555 controler ccts for testing and then move on to the stamp chip.

Sorry for the lack of updates. I didn't manage to find an acceptable linkage for the constraints of the project. Every single configuration that I tried (around 30 or so) either toggled or the mechanism interfered with the 1-DIN enclosure. As a result, I've been driving around with a slim DVD drive mounted in the space below my head unit and the screen sitting in the cupholder.
I'll keep trying to find a configuration that will work out, but I'm afraid that my claims of it being easy to manufacture will turn out to be false. I may end up doing something similar to what 89ragtopgt did, and when I get around to actually doing it I'll post my progress.

For an opening mechanism why not use an old PC cd or dvd drive motor. They are similar in length but may need width modifications to fit.

ps i registered just so I could post this idea I hope it works out.

    Hi!

I'm on the "same" project. Could you help me about the SERVO control?
Did you build a servo controller or buy it. If it is a homemade controller please help me, because i don't know how can i control this kind of motor.

    thx.
