1992 Mazda Miata In-Dash Project w/ 7" Lilliput

Here are some pics of my progress. The first picture is a picture of the car itself. The second picture is of the lilliput project housing on top my radio bezel. It was much wider and taller than the opening I had to work with. In the third picture, I used a dremel tool to cut away some of the plastic so that the lilliput can fit properly. The fourth picture is of the lilliput glued onto the radio bezel with epoxy. The next picture is when I applied the plastic filler. After that it's sanding, filling, more sanding, and more filling.

Here is a picture of the first coat of primer, I still need to fill in some pinholes and sand out some rough areas.

Now this is not a girly Miata! Awesome work on the dash. But I want to see more pics. Where is the computer placed?

Cris - I'll be uploading more pics as I get through the project, right now I'm on my third coat of primer. There always seems to be something I forgot to fill and sand! But it's looking much better. As for the computer placement, I was thinking about putting the epia in the glovebox (even mounted it and everything) but realized there is not really enough space. So I've decided to make a custom amp rack that I will mount on the wall behind the passenger seat, along with some plexiglass windows. I'll be sure to post everything here.

I too have the PC sitting behind the passenger's seat. However, I didn't realize until after having a few people ride with me this week, how valuable that lost 2" of legroom is! (not much room in a Miata) I'm thinking of tearing up the carpet this weekend and see if there's a way to route the cabling to the trunk and put the PC there. I'm curious to see how you're going to do your custom rack.

Meta - If the later miata models are anything like the older ones, you should find some channels into the trunk under the carpet. I know what you mean about the 2" of legroom! I used to have a cd changer mounted back there and some of my friends were pretty uncomfortable riding in my car! I'm not as concerned about that now because this car is not my daily driver anymore, it's more of my "fun" car. Another great location would be the dent in the trunk floor, not sure if your model has that still. I wasthinking of putting everything in there and placing a piece of carpeted mdf on top, with an acrylic window. I'll have to decide which route to go. Thanks
