I'd just fab a whole new dash. The one in the 280zx is blocky. Its like its worshipping pythagorean![]()
Trying to help a friend in his beginning CarPC planning. Has anyone done or seen any project pics that could give us ideas for his 280ZX. It is an '81.

Put some pics up, let people see what the dash is like. I don't mean to be rude about your car but is supect it will be just loads of black/grey plastic. I really don't like the interiors in Japenese cars until the latest designs as thy have finally got better. Mind you, when you look back at any oldish car (over 5 years) the interiors are pretty minging - maybe i am being too fussy.
EDIT: i jsut realised what my problem is with old cars - they are just so damn difficult to fit a screen in! Modern cars all have much better layouts for fitting screens (e.g. double DIN slots etc) and old car generally need a lot of fabrication. Best thing to do is make a mockup screen and sit in your car seeing where it looks best and be prepared to hack stuff up.

Yeah but Boris - it's still just a big expanse of black plastic with some fake wood. Any why do Jap cars always have a handbrake that is nearly vertical???? I always have my handbrake set much lower (easier to pull handbrake turns)
I am definitely being fussy and picky this morning - lack of sugar i suspect - i just look at some interiors and wish that mainstream car makes would put a little bit more effort into the interiors. but then I guess your average punter doesnt give a **** so save the bling interiors for someone who does and buys a nicer car. And plastic interiors last better i guess. I have been brought up on European family cars so whenever i get into a japenese car they always feel a bit plasticy - but there is no denying the rest of the jap car is better built (especially the engines)
I'll agree with you about the japanese car statement for cars that are not toyotas. My mom's and grandma's sentras have ****ty interiors (my mom's AC blew some of that foamy stuff from the ventOriginally Posted by Scouse Monkey

Yeh, my car has (cracked) fake wood. I love the location of the handbrake, probably because I sit so far back. The dash does have some fade on the top, and the door "skin" is brokenBut the rest feels very solid
