is anyone out there?
hi, i'm sorry, i know that there are a lot of threads/posts about this question, but i'm starting to work on my range dash in order to fit a 7" xenarc (that doesn't fit very flawlessly, indeed, need to relocate buttons and so on..).
the problem is that i read all posts about bondo, epoxy and everything related to fabrication issues, but before starting i really need some explanation, cause my knowledges in fabrication, even if quite good, are related to RC model and, since i live in Italy i'm afraid i can make some mistake when buying appropriate products due to the fact that i can't buy from US stores paints or bondoes.
So please don't get in anger:
1) which kind of product do i use to glue xenarc front bezel into the hole i'll make for it in the center dash console?
2) do i need to reinforce the dash-bezel assembly with something else (i.e. glass fiber?) in order to avoid cracking?
3) wich kind of product do i use to fill gaps in order to make an even finish?
4) do i use dye or paint to paint the dash after having obtained a smooth surface?
i used the word "product" because i'd like to know wich "kind" of product i have to use in order to do the works, (since i know that, for example, bondo it's a brand name and not a general words to indicate it...)
i really appreciate any suggestion/helps.
1.) That's where the epoxy comes in. People usually just epoxy the front bezel in place in the dash console.Originally Posted by cyberlancer
2.) Probably depends on your car, if it turns out feeling "flimsy" when you're done, you might, who knows. I've never had to though, in my experience the epoxy has held well.
3.) To fill in deep gaps to make the bezel flush with the dash so it appears to be one peice, most people use fiberglass reinforced bondo. What I have is in a blue can, is Bondo brand, and is just called "Bondo-Glass Fiberglass reinforced filler".
4.) You'll want to find a spray paint that matchs your dash nicely. It usually takes a few trys to find the perfect match, so you might consider painting a scrap peice of plastic or something and matching it to your dash before you paint the dash bezel itself.
Get some pic's. Make the problem more clear.
it could sound strange but these anwers are just fine for me. i'll start work as soon as i'll receive the spare Range top switch unit i've ordered. i've already started work on mu custom case. i'lll post some pics when it'll be something to see ....
